Original broadcast date August 15, 2012. The original podcast post is here: https://pixelatedgeek.com/2012/08/comic-issues-79-mentors/
The path of many young heroes is often led by a wise guide, someone who teaches them to the way and instills confidence when needed most.
This week our young heroes Anthony, Daryck, and Leland from Movie Issues take a look at the mentor / ward relationship and find it's not always for the best. Was Batman really as good of a mentor to the Robins as we're told? Did Obi-Wan Kenobi destroy Luke Skywalker's life with one poor decision? These are the questions that must be asked, and Comic Issues is the right podcast to ask them!
Original broadcast date August 8, 2012. The original podcast post is here: https://pixelatedgeek.com/2012/08/comic-issues-78-who-are-the-real-geek-girls/
Geeks come in many different shapes and sizes, with many variations on the theme in between. We all do our best to stand up for what we love and wave our geek flags proudly, but sometimes in that effort others don't always understand how we choose to fight for our nerdy rights.
Such was that case this last week when Joe Peacock wrote a passionate article about "posers" at conventions like SDCC. This caught a lot of heat when John Scalzi wrote a retort, flaming Peacock about his harsh judgement. Afterwards, Joe Peacock wrote several more articles defending himself from other attacks.
This week Anthony, Daryck, Elizabeth, and Leland from Movie Issues take on the topic of "Fake Geek Girls", if they exist, and the whole mess of Mr. Peacock vs. The Internet.
Original broadcast date August 1, 2012. The original podcast post is here: https://pixelatedgeek.com/2012/08/comic-issues-77-sequel-to-disaster/
It's no surprise that Hollywood refuses to put their money behind original stories these days, but what may be surprising is how far back they're digging to find a franchise to make a sequel for. Independence Day 2, anyone? How about another Die Hard movie with a longer title than the last two put together?
This week the crew /facepalm as they go through a list of films either in the process of getting rebooted, or continued long past their prime. Never content to simply complain though, Anthony, Daryck, and Elizabeth offer some ideas for blockbuster movies with characters that we haven't seen on the screen yet.

This week the crew also flies without their gentle giant, as Andrew missed out on recording day so he could be present for the birth of his first child. We're all incredibly happy for Andrew and his wife and congratulate them both on the birth of their little geek-in-training.
