  • ComiCentric Issue 58: The Singularity of Reality often leads to upset stomach.

This week we cover the singularity that is this Simulation our reality. And how all we see is all we render and there is nothing beyond that. Till it gets rendered in the next fraction of time. Moments so fast that the computing power to render every Nano second of every atom in the entire universe is astronomical. And then to make that a thing a blip for everyone. It’s impossible unless there is only one machine controlling all the avatars and making them all do a preset of orders that will lead to some inevitability that will end without end and the beginning of a countless cycle that will never fail to continue .

And I’m not including the possibility of multiverses in the same issue as each that came before it. Another version of you somewhere out there chose the salad instead of the fries. Ugh… imagine that? But that is all the theory and image we create in our heads. That often said that each thought is a universe of possibility. kind of like opening a new timeline. Filled with countless endings and even more inevitability.

With so much out there to think about that we often forget that even though it’s endless and there is much that we will not see or experience there is also so much behind us that we never seen or experienced . Our deal is for the now.  To connect our portion of our time line with the past and the future. While we only have a limited time to do these things. So lets take what has been given to us as a gift, to make what we can with it and make sure we all have a great blip.

  • ComiCentric Issue 57: The Fur-ther Adventures of Space Racoon and his Amazing Friends

ComiCentric Issue 57: The Fur-ther Adventures of Space Racoon and his Amazing Friends

So last week, like millions of movie goers out there we went to go see Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3. And while this served as an ending to a 10-year run of movies spanning 3 movies, 2 tie ins, and one x-mas special. Guardians for some served as the iron man for those who came in late to the game. What the first Guardians movie did for the rest of the franchise was liberating. They showed that superhero movies are more than just up up and away. You can have fun watching a movie that has heart, humor, and lots of violence.

I still think that the ending of this ride needed more of an exclamation point. They teased us that something bad was going to happen. Something big. The soundtrack for vol.3 was a bit foreboding and I kind of wanted to say misleading. After finding out no one dies…. Ok ok a whole planet and its civilization was wiped out, and I think Nathan Fillion might have died too…  I guess I should reiterate. Not one of the main core cast dies.

The crew of the bowie were all broken. They all came with their own personal trauma baggage whether it was from previous family events, traumatic experiments performed, or just not finding where you belong. They were able to form together and form a support group that while a bit rough, would non the less will travel light years and overcome Gods to keep their family alive.

As it is, that movie was a roller coaster of emotions though always plateauing, coming short of sheading a tear levels. And jab through the loop de loop heart is what we needed to make this movie bleed tears of emotions. Whatever executive in charge of merch at deeznuts probably said, ‘you can’t sell death to kids.’ Just saying if someone died, it would have just made this the best bittersweet culmination of a ride that we all like to enjoy. Oh well…

Second half of this podcast though. 2007 Korean made movie D-Wars. Oh, you don’t know about D-Wars. Well let’s just say since 2016 a sequel that probably will never see the light was still in production. And I am painfully… I mean patiently waiting for it.

  • ComiCentric Issue 56: Evil Dead before you go to bed

ComiCentric Issue 56: Evil Dead before you go to bed

Do you remember when you were introduced into the evil dead universe?  Or when you realized that the first two Evil Dead movies are the same movies, just one had a bigger budget.  Maybe you’re an army of darkness kind of person. Wherever you started the franchise, that started with a modest budget, now a franchise spanning multiple iteration of movies, tv shows, and even video games.

This latest iteration of Evil Dead: Evil Dead Rise brings the spirit of the original films with all the gore and excitement you expect of the franchise. And while the tropes that made the franchise what it was were all there. This movie tried to deliver in the gore section, but it just felt a little flat. It was nice to see everyone die in their own spectacular way. I wasn’t thrown back as many of the people that saw the movie were.

I mean I was amazed at the special effects that were in the movie. Not being able to differentiate the CGI from the practical effect was seamlessly well done. But I didn’t go see an Evil Dead movie for that. I went to get groovy with 90 minutes of my time. And perhaps being such a huge fan of the series, I already knew what must happen in order for this to be a well-played out Evil Dead movie. That when something that should surprise me just makes me produce the ‘Chad’ approval face.

But if you’re going to go with stories from the Evil dead world, why not make it a series? It can span from the Middle Ages through the foreseeable future. And now that the evil dead seems to have opened the multiverse in this respected franchise. The stories that can be told are unlimited. But starting off with a movie that ties in ever so lightly is a good start. And granted I was entertained. as a fan of the series I did laugh more than I gasped. And I did enjoy myself more than I intended too.

ComiCentric Issue 55: These bones are tired. Those comics are free!!

Well, how do you do folks. It’s been a while since we just sat down to talk, just the three of us. After the past few weeks of nonstop genuine grade, A podcasting. From throwing a rocking anniversary show, meeting the legendary Chicano Batman of Whittier Califas homie, to coaxing a fetus vomit to come into the nostalgic sound system. We end the month with a simple how you are doing. Well in short, we are tired. So, this week join your pals Pete and I as we blow off a little steam.

Life is interesting but if we move with it, we will never get to enjoy it. Things about life are never ending. And even after you are gone ‘life will find a way. ‘Do not worry about what life is going to bring or just keeping up with it. Sometimes you must stop and smell the old comics. You know that old paper smell that reminds you of that one room with all the textbooks in your elementary where you swear you saw a ghost and refuse to tell anyone because if you did it would make it real. You know the smell. None the less there is only one direction in life and your headed towards it. Don’t be in a hurry to finish. We will all get there in the end. … … … oh right. Tried.

We are so tired, and we will tell you this week what grinds our gears. They can’t all be highs sometimes things get to us. And you get to hear it!!

We also dive into secret identities… a useful garb or a needless fashion apparel? In this day and age when the secret identity can be uncovered as easily by the ring security camera on your neighbor’s porch. Is it even necessary to have a secret identity anymore? I get it you can put your loved ones in danger. But you do that the moment you take on the mantle. It’s a no brainer. On this topic. Listen today, it’s the only way to settle this debate.

  • ComiCentric Issue 54: A Fetus by any other Vomit would still smell as sweet?

What can be said about Mr. Fetus Vomit that hasn’t been said already? What is a Fetus Vomit you say? Well, it’s hard to explain yet at the same time its eccentricity at its finest.  Meet Oscar Moreno AKA Fetus Vomit. We are gracious enough to have Fetus Vomit lend us a little of his time to try to get to the bottom of what is a Fetus Vomit. But the more we dove into it the more it became obvious a Fetus Vomit is everything you think it is and a little bit more. An illustrator…  writer… singer… video editor… Event planner… and lover of buffalo sauce on pizza.  This all-encompassing artist is loving every minute of his artistic ride.

Has Instagram full of really freaking awesome art and interesting musical pieces.

Growing up between Los Angeles and Chihuahua Mexico, Fetus Vomit tried the college thing but decided to pursue Art in his own way. And thus, creating the brand and persona Fetus Vomit. He Started by vending his art at a friend’s show, where you can purchase tote bags, buttons, patches, stickers, and even limited-edition shirts. All created. Drawn. Printed and stapled by Fetus Vomit himself. His notoriety garnered him enough friends to throw a festival in the
park known only as Vomit in the Park. Bringing together over 20 performers into a free show for the residents of Highland Park.

How does one keep up this lifestyle? He has an online store where you can purchase fetus art and comics for incredibly low low prices.

Fetus Vomit is working on Vol 2 of his self-made comic book, that goes by the same moniker. He has some of his black and white issues of vol 1 available on

his online store. One of the current goals he would like, to collect all 4 issues of Vol1 and make it a full color trade paper back. Fetus Vomit is definitely one of those that fit that small category of “Too weird to live, too rare to die!” So support his artistic endeavors, it’s the price of admission to Mr. Fetus Vomits wild ride!

  • ComiCentric Issue 53: Holy Podcast Chicano Batman

ComiCentric Issue 53: Holy Podcast Chicano Batman

Before his iconic transformation, he was mild manner husband and father Michael Garcia. Not knowing if he was doing the dad thing right. He is now navigating the treacherous seas of he had never navigated before. And unbeknown to him his life would take a turn and never be the same again.

One day as he tried to figure out this fatherhood thing. He, like many first-time dads wanted to show his kid a good time. Seeing that Frank and sons was having a singing of the old Batman ‘66 cast . Here was a show that as he grew up captured his imagination, Armed with only 80 bucks and a Batman

'66 hot wheels Micheal and his son took off to the promise land. getting there early enough to be towards the beginning of the line. He was met with another
hurtle; it was 100 bucks for the autograph.

Nearly defeated Michael and his son where ready to move on, when he heard Adam West voice telling them to step forward and that 80 was ok. And as Adam West began to sign the hot wheels, he began a conversation with Garcia’s child. Inquiring in the most ’66 Bruce Wayne way about eating veggies and being a good child. As Michael and his child were about to take their leave. Adam West, the man who made batman real for most, told him with the sincerest face. That he was doing a good job at being a dad.

Elated and flabbergasted with that Michael who wasn’t sure if he was doing ok. Got the answer he was looking for from his hero and this began the wheels of justice turning. Ever since that day no longer needed that vindication if he was doing the dad thing right. He decided, he would share that spark given to him by Mr. West with the rest of the world. He needed to be more than just a batman he needed to be a batman for the people. Then and there a Chicano from the city of Whitter became more than a Batman. He became Chicano Batman! Dawning on the bandana cape de Justicia and the docks of discipline he takes to the convention circuit and brings smiles to those who need it.

Ok maybe I did go a little overboard with Chicano Batman’s origin. But we all have dreams and aspirations. Growing up we were bombarded with the message that it wasn’t possible to be Batman. Yet they told us we can become whatever we wanted to be… a doctor, a lawyer, THE president. They lead us to believe it was allwithin our reach. So, if all that was possible, then why when we told them we wanted to be Batman they would laugh or bring out the chancla to put the dreams in their place? If everything is possible. And we were told that it was all possible. Then as grownups, gee golly old, we are going to become Batman. We teach our kids that anything is possible and yet the best way to do that is to show them.

Meeting Martin Garcia AKA THE Chicano Batman was an honor. A true Batman fan from head to toe and in spirit. He currently is a speech therapist who cosplays for any type of event. He has a smile and a attitude that can be contagious. And after the live show, we said we weren’t going to do another live recording. But he came in costume!!

  • ComiCentric THE ANNUAL!: with Special Musical Guest PIZZA STAINS!!

In comics the Annual is usually a combination piece to whatever you are currently reading in comics. The annual may close plot holes. Give resolution to unsolved endings. Annuals even drum up more questions. Some can see the annual as jumping point as many of them usually do a good job of telling the story thus far. There was even a time the annuals came with updates on the abilities and augmentations of characters.

Well here at ComiCentric we think a little differently. While we knew that we wanted to do something special for the one-year annual anniversary. We didn’t know how to go about it. We thought up what if we just do the best of. And compile it into one episode. While a good idea. We like to think that’s been done to death. Then we thought what if we do it like a late-night talk show. But getting the furniture for that would be too cumbersome. At one point we even thought about doing it from a remote location and or other comic shop.

Then in our standard fashion just AMALGAMED them all into one idea. A live show of sorts in the comic shop! So, with our help from our good friend Dre of dres geek philosophy and the ever-loving Pizza Stains. And of course, all our wonderful listeners who despite it being on April first. You know April fools. showed up knowing that it wasn’t a joke.

And to every one of our past guest:

  • ComiCentric Issue 51: 4…. 3… Here comes 52!!!

    ComiCentric
    Issue 51: 4….  3… Here comes 52!!!

Before I start with this week’s

blurb, I want to thank everyone that showed up to nostalgic comics to celebrate
    the one-year
anniversary of ComiCentric podcast. And give it
up one more time to THE PIZZA STAINS!! for making it a magical night!! While I
work furiously to get that to sound good for next week. Please enjoy more of
our normal shenanigans for one more week, till I get that issue in the can.

This week though its classic format. Pete and I take on the nefarious issue

with comic issues that are in constant flux. Not because the characters need
them. But because writers just want to tell their stories without the consequences
of the previous authors. who some take years to develop characters and story
lines only to be RET-CON by the next guy who thinks he’s got the
million-dollar idea. Now sometimes it’s a good idea and other times, well…

    We
also get into some retconning of our own with our total dissatisfaction with
    the Fantastic
Four movies. Except Michael Chiklis, he’s like the perfect casting for The Thing.
    NOT Ben
Grimm. Just The Thing.  We take a moment to make with the friends
with the idea that there will never be a perfect FF movie. Though we know that
ben grim is a one of those marvel tragic characters that will never be happy.
We would like to see a ben grim that is comfortable in his own skin. That is ok
being orange and made of rock. Because of what he stands for. Being who he is
    the freaking ever-loving blue-eyed Thing.

Also, we check in on Jeremy

Renner, after his heroic endeavor. And are happy he didn’t lose a leg. We
contemplate being weekly reviewers of renner-vations.
the latest in the let’s build something for less fortunate series.

So, join us on this last episode

of the year. before we start season 2 electric boogaloo!!

  • ComiCentric Issue 49: Gone to Con… EL GORDO CON (with the full GTFS team)
    ComiCentric
Issue 49: Gone to Con… EL GORDO CON (with the full GTFS team)

    What do you do when

you have a comic you have thought up…. Written… drawn… laid out…  gotten
funded… and then sent it to be printed? well you throw a con of course, to
    celebrate.

And why do you throw yourself a

party? Well, if you have ever gone through the pain-fun process of making a
comic book you know it’s not an easy task.

You might think up an idea. And

that’s the easy part of the matter. Ideas are like assholes… everyone has one.
And while some might not be the best ideas, there is always room for growth and
progress. Now all that stuff you thought about gets written down.

All you must do next is sit down

and write the ideas down in notes. Write a plot for your story. Develop
characters. Start a lore with airtight plots devices, stories, timelines,
character descriptions, and story boards you know your basic world building.

    Now
all that stuff you thought about gets written down... and it needs to manifest.

Now all that stuff you wrote about gets sent over from the left part of the

brain to the right part. And once that person get a hold of it it’s their
chance to turn the vol. up to 11. They have the task of getting all that was
written down and make magic with it. Suddenly there is character sheets,
background art, heroes, villains, and all in between to be drawn. This is
easily one worst spot to be stuck on. Unless you have a good artist.

    Though,
if you can manage to get the art done and you think, "heck I’m halfway
there." And ohhh how much fun I are having. And yeah, you might of not
have issues with the last two but here comes another loop on this roller
coaster of publishing funny books. Setting up the pages in a way that is
presentable, legible getting word bubbles to fit in a way that makes the story
flow. Just making sure it looks good.

Good you made it, you have 'A'

comic. that’s good. But how is Joe from Timbuktu going to read it? Well, you
make multiple copies so you can share your story with the masses. But that
don’t come cheap or easy. Finding the right way to print your masterpiece can
be difficult. Get some one that knows and pay up the wazoo or go with a smaller
press and hope for the best. But once you find your place to mass produce, you
can see the finish line. This is pretty much an abridged way things work in
order to make comic books. once the printer has made your millionth book. You
have to go out there and start the slanging process. A much harder process than
    making the comic.

So, before you head over to sell

your soul to the masses. Give yourself some time to celebrate the
accomplishment of making the dream a tangible reality.  Get your
Martinelli’s and some fancy cheeses and go to town.

    Having
said ALL that. Come on down to Nostalgic comics in San Gabriel Valley on
SATURDAY MARCH 21ST 2023 to celebrate the culmination of a
successful publication of El Gordo the Teenage Flying Saucer book 2. This is
years in the making, and would like to celebrate this milestone with a little
con at the store. There will be artist Candy Briones
    and Crystal
Gonzalez who both helped, with art donations to the kick starter
campaign. Come meet the GTFS team Writers: Miguel
    Acedo, Peter
    Mellini and Artist: Valeria
Oliveros . They will have copies of book 1 and book 2 for sale!!
