Comicentric 125: Making Ripple Effects by Kickstarting this campaign!
First of all, let me thank Barbra Dillion for helping us with this week’s podcast and providing us with the audio. We zoom’ed on into chat with FanBase Press' Barbra Dillon who had some exciting news. They are launching a Kickstarter! Why do you ask is this exciting. Well, the last time they had a Kickstarter campaign was nearly 15 years ago. This time around fanbase press is fundraising to have Jordan Hart's Ripple Effects: The Deluxe Edition printed. This Eisner and Harvey award nominated story by Jordan Hart is a Dwayne McDuffie Award winning story is about a superhero who has an invisible illness. The superhero is invulnerable to physical harm, but he has type 1 diabetes. So, like superman, but if his own body was kryptonite.
This graphic novel and its author hope to bring to light invisible illnesses, like type one 1 diabetes, that limit a person’s activities, senses, or moments, but is not outwardly visible. Invisible illnesses can be physical, mental, neurological. So, there is more than just one type of invisible illness, issues not brought up in our day to day. Making suffering in silence a common theme when dealing with invisible illnesses. There could be someone you know that is suffering in silence, and this book along with its message is food for thought and understanding.
The Kickstarter for Jordan Hart's Ripple Effects: The Deluxe Edition begins on September 10th and runs into the October 1st, 2024. This deluxe edition features a forward by Gail Simone, study guides for better understanding, and the coolest part is there is a real rad art gallery. Featuring art from kids with invisible illnesses who have had their illustrations touched up by some extremely gifted comic artist.
AND also, as you can see, I’m posting this on a Wednesday, that’s because tonight you have a chance to purchase some of that original art. Hosted by @davidmbooher Starting tonight September 11, at 7 p.m./PT, there will be a live auction benefiting make a wish foundation. For that you must head on over to Whatnot.
It’s not all business, we also get to chat with Barbra Dillon about her publishing company Fanbase Press and its origins and how they started to publish books with positive messages from an array of artists. We talked about what it takes to be in the corner of artist, writers. When it comes to helping with getting comics made. and a bit of con life and we find out what she is a fan of.
ComiCentric 124: This Project was made possible by contributions to this Kickstarter by listeners like you. Thank you!
Welcome again avid listeners to another exciting adventure. This week we come to you prerecorded live from the Nostalgic comics: ‘Con in the shop’ event. Joining us mere minutes before the chaos began is our friends and yours Javier Hernandez. A long-time friend of the show and store Javier has come to share some big news. He is currently working on a new book to extend the El Muerto-verse and he is also launching a Kickstarter for what is going to be a monster of a collection.
The Kickstarter for the omnibus EL MUERTO THE AZTEC ZOMBIE: DUOLOGY and THE MAN FROM MICTLAN #1 has already begun and is running until the end of September. This will collect both his DAZE OF THE DEAD and CASA DEL DIABLO into one huge softcover. With a brand new cover by Valeria Ontiveros. Also, as part of the Kickstarter, Javier shares with us his new up and coming project. El Muerto: THE MAN FROM MICTLAN, this new story will not only introduce new characters, but will also cavalcade some of his classics.
SO, join us once more avid listener, as we catch up with Javier and explore some of our favorite topics. From the AI uprising to that what goes bump in the kremlin. YES, it’s a gremlin. And if you missed the 'Con in the shop'. Too bad. Maybe next year. Or next event. And don’t forget to pledge HERE!!
Your patronage is appreciated.
