Comics and Chronic

On the newest episode of Comics and Chronic the guys talk Captain America: Brave New World.

Captain America: Brave New World is a 2025 American superhero film based on Marvel Comics featuring the character Sam Wilson / Captain America. Produced by Marvel Studiosand distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, it is the fourth installment in the Captain America film series, a continuation of the television miniseries The Falcon and the Winter Soldier (2021), and the 35th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The film was directed by Julius Onah from a screenplay by Rob Edwards and the writing teams of Malcolm Spellman & Dalan Musson and Onah & Peter Glanz. It stars Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson / Captain America alongside Danny Ramirez, Shira Haas, Carl Lumbly, Xosha Roquemore, Giancarlo Esposito, Liv Tyler, Tim Blake Nelson, and Harrison Ford. In the film, Wilson investigates a conspiracy involving President Thaddeus Ross(Ford).

But first are we dealing with Skrull Cody? Is this movie more of an Incredible Hulk 2 than a Captain America movie? How was their use of Isaiah Bradley? Did they nerf The Leader? How was the Leader’s costume design? Would Cody and Jake have preferred if Joaquin died? How was Harrison Ford and the Red Hulk? Was this movie bogged down with fan service? Do we hate MCU Bruce Banner? Do we hate the Thunderbolts more after each trailer? Is Thunderbolt Ross the John McCain of the MCU? Did the Leader win in the end? Does Slutimantium come from Slutlestials? Was the end credit scene bad? Who’s gonna be on this Captain America’s Avengers? Find out on the newest episode of Comics and Chronic.

This week on Comics and Chronic the boys continue their covers of the LOTR Trilogy with The Two Towers. Directed by Peter Jackson

The boys go Helms Deep from Jump Street.  But first, Jake receives a mysterious text message.  Cody makes a split pea soup.  Jake & Cody talk Anora briefly.  We discuss Anthony lore.  Should Rihanna play Sauron in a LOTR remake?  Are hobbits the Italians of middle earth?  Cody shares his experience of watching Two Towers on shrooms & Jake talks Godzilla Minus One on shrooms.  Does Gandalf go Super Saiyan?  Is Gimli racist?  Saruman is never to be heard from again.  Sopranos references LOTR.  The voice of TreeBeard is also the actor that plays Gimli.  Peter Jackson makes a cameo in all 3 movies.  If you haven’t seen Peter Jackson’s Meet The Feebles get ready for some insane nightmare fuel.   Jake does the Uruk-hai vs Orc scene.  Aragorn is in his fuck boy era in this movie.  Who wins:  Legolas or Hawkeye?  Hugo Weaving is at his sexiest in this movie.  300 started the war on masculinity.  Cody cannot stop ranking things if his life depended on it.  Tune in now!

This week on Comics and Chronic the boys make history by covering their first ever manga, the classic Japanese horror manga Uzumaki by Junji Ito. It's Manga and Marijuana!

“Kurouzu-cho, a small fogbound town on the coast of Japan, is cursed. According to Shuichi Saito, the withdrawn boyfriend of teenager Kirie Goshima, their town is haunted not by a person or being but a pattern: UZUMAKI, the spiral—the hypnotic secret shape of the world”

But first The Costco Guys rise through the hierarchy of pop culture along with The Rizzler by making their AEW debut. Cody gives us his home makeover plans.  This is the first manga Jake has ever read.  Each story in Uzumaki is more insane than the last.  The story is literally a spiral into madness.  The book has an anthology feel that ultimately ties together in the end. Cody reveals how he came to own Uzumaki.  Is this one of the best horror comics ever made?  The boys decide they need to cover more of Something Is Killing The Children.  This book is so unsettling that at some points Jake had to put it down.  Cody gives his take on the animated Uzumaki on Adult Swim.  Has Cody infected Jake with his snail like slowness?  What sick scientific experiments was Anthony up to in 1st grade?  Cody used to pretend to be an apex predator and eat bugs.  Uzumaki is an uncomfortable yet engaging read with equal parts body horror, existential dread, and losing one’s mind sprinkled throughout.  Are the boys going to travel to Hell to rescue Paul Walker?  Anthony’s Superguy comes out next month! This is a must read for any horror fan or manga reader!  Tune in now!

This week on Comics and Chronic Jake & Anthony interview writer Daniel Freedman.  He is the creator & writer for such comics as Kali, Raiders, & Birdking published by Dark Horse Comics as well as Undying Love published by Image Comics. Go check Daniel Freedman’s books out now! https://www.danielfreedman.tv/

But first, Daniel confuses Jake for Cody (A surprisingly common occurrence).  He also gives insight to his experiences with Comic Cons and lets us know which ones are his favorite.  Is Artist Alley at Comic-Con being pushed more and more to the back as time goes on?  Daniel is also a screenwriter but has been focusing more on books over the last couple of years.  Will his book Undying Love finally be made into a movie?  Daniel lets us know why he prefers writing comics to screenplays. Daniel explains how Birdking came about.  Daniel Freedman is a big Lord Of The Rings fan & some of its influence can be felt in Birdking.  How did Dune influence Daniel Freedman?  Daniel & artist CROM have done an incredible job world building Birdking.  Daniel gives his advice to Anthony as a fellow writer & comic creator.  Warhammer vibes also come across in Birdking and we can possibly expect the final volume of Birdking at the end of 2025.  Tune in now & check out our Patreon exclusive Birdking episode out this month!

This week on Comics and Chronic Jake & Cody are in for another Half Baked episode & they’re discussing the Robert Eggers film Nosferatu starring Lily-Rose Depp, Willem Dafoe, Bill Skarsgård, Nicholas Hoult, Emma Corrin, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, & Ralph Ineson.  “ A gothic tale of obsession between a haunted young woman and the terrifying vampire infatuated with her, causing untold horror in its wake.”

But first, Cody shows off his Christmas gifts.  Is this movie over hyped?  When compared to Bram Stroker’s Dracula the answer absolutely!  This movie is NOT the best movie of the year. Werewolves are sexy AF.  Is Robert Eggers hit or miss?  The Witch & The Lighthouse are way scarier.  Jake fell asleep during the movie.  The movie is beautifully shot, has great acting, is sexy, and amazing cinematography but still doesn’t BUSS. NEPO babies make a return this episode.  Does Nosferatu cuck Nicholas Hoult?  Does the movie have enough vampire lore? Cody mispronounces Guillermo del Toro’s name for the millionth time.  Is this movie underwhelming?  Cody & Jake rank their top 5 Vampire movies.

This week on Comics and Chronic the boys talk Local Man volume 2 by Tim Seeley and Tony Fleecs, published by Image Comics.

If you haven’t already go check out our episode on the first volume as well as our individual interviews with both Tim & Tony!

“ Farmington's very own LOCAL MAN is called in to investigate a mysterious drowning on dry land. The problem is, Jack isn't legally allowed to be a superhero. Oh, also, he's sleeping with the police chief's wife. AND, there's a conspiracy theory gaining traction that Jack murdered America's most beloved champion.

Now, Local Man, already in over his head, is drawn into another twisted case with dark ties to his superhero past.”

But first the boys discuss America’s heartthrob, Luigi Mangione!  Anthony introduces a new sound effect for Cody.  It’s very obvious when Cody doesn’t like the sound of something.  We learn more about some characters’ past in this volume along with getting a great tripping sequence with Crossjack. Anthony schools us an array of original Image characters that show up in this book. Jake & Anthony give brief thoughts on the Mister Miracle book by Tom King & Mitch Gerads. Is Crossjack’s true power to cuck people? Is our fan Trey from New Zealand still out there? We briefly talk our excitement for the new DC film universe. To all our Commies and new listeners, start listening around episode 8! Cody tries to escape being Hodag and lord more to laugh at & learn.  Tune in now!
