This ep we pop our Studio Ghibli cherry and our first is their first in terms of box office behemoths. Princess Mononoke had incredible art, a thrilling story, and can cross from dub to sub so flawlessly, it could single handedly end the dub/sub war with a draw... all thanks to a comic-book writing legend. It took the literal box office monstrosity that was The Titanic to knock this movie out of Japan’s top movie of all time spot. Compellingly accurate comicbook storylines, overarching plots from episode one, decent animation even in action scenes, and all of the sony properties the MCU/Disney hates not owning. They crushed with this and it’s so weird that they do that because it’s this and one other show that Marvel has animated that wasn’t borderline awful. The Avatar universe is known for its world building and what better way to do it than skip right to the next industrially revolutionized generation and fill it with LATE TEENAGED AND EARLY ADULT ANGST AND STRESS BABY. Korra pulls all of that off perfectly with visuals, themes, and an emotional level much darker than the original. Sometimes that's outstanding, sometimes it's trash, sometimes it's ruined by network overreach. All the same, it's earned the word Legend as the title says and we're pumped to talk about it.
