  • Ep. #89: Coming Out Late to My Husband, Adriana's Story, Part 2

In this Part 2 episode of the Coming Out Late podcast, Robin continues the conversation with Late Bloomer Adriana and her co-parent and current husband, Darius. You’ll hear how they walk us through their process of managing their marriage, their families and their futures during and after Adriana’s recent awakening of her sexuality. For reference, Adriana no longer identifies herself as a heterosexual woman.

In this episode you will learn…

    • Wanting something more for yourself, or something different for yourself, doesn’t mean leaving what you have is ever easy.
    •  Who leaves the house when a ‘separation’ is the next step?
    • How do ‘things’ FEEL in your body? Your body never lies to you - it just takes getting very still and very honest with yourself to ‘feel the truths’ it offers.
    • We ALL have those, “...what the hell am I doing?” moments. All of us!
    • If you’re not sure about ‘separation’ - try moving into a spare bedroom, or set up a space and a place for you to sleep other than the marital bedroom you share.
    • Continuing the strong post-marital bond long into the future, and how do future partners fit into that scenario?
    • “...Leaving for a feeling and a thought…? What am I, crazy?”

  • Ep. 85: Developing A Money Mindset While Coming Out Late, Part 2

In this episode of the Coming Out Late podcast Robin has a casual but critical conversation with another late bloomer, Sabrina, about the importance of developing a money mindset in our lives - especially before, during and after our coming out late journeys. Together Robin and Sabrina broach the “Money Mindset” subject from their own beginner’s knowledge and personal experiences.

In this episode you will learn about and hear Robin and Sabrina discuss…

    • What IS “Money Mindset”? And how/why does that affect YOU?
    • Three steps in budgeting: (1) try to save 10% of your income, (2) know what your monthly fixed expenses are and try to keep them at 50-60% of your income, and (3) put aside about 30% for “spending” or your “fun money”.
    • You can only cut-back your expenses so much, but, can you renegotiate your big, big fixed expenses, (i.e., auto insurance, homeowners insurance, your mortgage to a lower interest rate, rent, etc.); the next question is, can you increase your income at all?
    • Whether you’re a stay-at-home mom, work part time, or even full time, know what value you bring to your marriage and be willing to fight for your value!
    • Know what the rental market is in your area and determine what your income needs to be in order to move out and live on your own.
    • If neither you and/or your spouse cannot afford to move out, then you both need to ask the question, “...how can we meet our needs within the marriage. Are you ok with me seeing someone else and you seeing someone else…?” (a.k.a., ethical non-monogamy).
    • Whether or not you stay in the marriage, there will always be trade-offs. The questions are: What are you financially able to trade-off? And, what are you comfortable trading-off?

  • Ep. #84: Developing A Money Mindset While Coming Out Late, Part 1

In this episode of the Coming Out Late podcast Robin has a casual but critical conversation with another late bloomer, Sabrina, about the importance of developing a money mindset in our lives - especially before, during and after our coming out late journeys. Together Robin and Sabrina broach the “Money Mindset” subject from their own beginner’s knowledge and personal experiences, and not from any kind of ‘expert’ stance. Whether you are in a contractual relationship, a marriage, partnered or non-partnered, it is critical that we late bloomers have a sense of money matters, know our financial rights and have a better understanding of our financial position in our world.

In this episode you will learn about and hear Robin and Sabrina discuss…

    • What is a “money mindset”? How do you develop a mindset around money? How does having a ‘money mindset’ affect you and your future?
    • Have you ever thought about your relationship with money and what your journey with money has been throughout your life? How did your relationship with money first get formed? How do you feel about money, and handling money? How does ‘money’ make you feel? Do you think you are capable of handling money?
    • Currently, what is your mindset around money? How is your relationship with money?
    • Having a “money mindset” begins with, “...starting to notice the invisible scripts going on in your head, [surrounding money], and the automatic reactions you have in your body, [as it relates to money matters.]
    • Stop and think about: What do you tell yourself about money and your abilities around handling money? Do you tell yourself, “...I'm bad with money..”, or, “...I'm a right-brained person, I wasn’t born to be good with money…” Or do you tell yourself, “... money is the root of all evil…”? Do you tell yourself, “...money doesn't grow on trees…”? Or, are you in a more positive frame-of-mind about money?
    • To develop a healthy money mindset, we must first go through these three steps: First, we must become aware-of, and bring awareness-to our own beliefs around money. In order to understand our own psychology, beliefs and personal relationship with money, we must first become aware of the dialogues and scripts swirling around in our own minds. What are we telling ourselves about money?
    • Second, after the “awareness” step, we must then ask ourselves, “...Where do my beliefs around money come from…?” For example: How did your parents talk about money? Did your primary caretakers talk to you about saving or investing? How did your primary caretakers talk to each other about money? Did your mom pay the bills or did your dad take care of everything? Were your parents spenders or savers?
    • Once you’ve developed an awareness-of your money belief system and explored where your money beliefs come from, then lastly, it’s time to ask yourself, “...are those beliefs still serving me in living my best life…?”
    • Improving your money mindset and becoming proactive about your awareness and understanding of money matters can incrementally impact your future financial security.

  • Ep. #83: Coming Out Late At the Phoenix Retreat, Part 2

In this Part 2 episode of “Coming Out Late in Phoenix, The Retreat”, Robin continues the conversation with her group of not-straight women who braved the queer wilderness in Phoenix, Arizona to attend the very first “Coming Out Late” Retreat! Mostly on their best-behavior, you will hear just how much each person grew, appreciated and reaped in the benefits of meeting and retreating in-person.

In this episode you will hear Robin and the Coming Out Late Retreat group informally talk about their experiences and touching moments from the Phoenix, AZ Retreat:

    • What are the benefits of attending an in-person Retreat with other folx who are, or have, come out late?
    • How did the “introverts” do on this group retreat of 10-13 queer folx? What was one of the main components of the Retreat weekend that they found to be enormously helpful as introverts in SO many brand new, crowded scenarios?
    • The value of in-person connections and support.
    • Building your tribe and the importance of community.
    • The importance of feeling and being safe with your gay circle of friends.
    • What elements are valuable and critical to feeling comfortable in gay social circles.
    • Manifesting the courage and strength to dive deep in personal growth.
    • Wanna join other like-minded not-straight women in future Coming Out Late Retreats? Send Robin an email, requesting to be put on the Coming Out Late Retreat email list. Email her at: [email protected].
