  • Class 1 – “A Firm Foundation” with Msgr. Michael Witt
Class One: Overview of the early Church and Justin Martyr
The eight Fathers explored in this course are quoted 170 times in the Catechism of the Catholic Church. Their contribution to understanding and appreciating the saving message of Jesus Christ and the life of His Church is beyond estimate. Their lives span five centuries from the birth of Justin Martyr to the death of Gregory the Great, but their influence on us remains as strong as ever.
As a bonus, we explore early Christian burial practices and come to appreciate the importance of Sunday Mass, Easter and Christmas and why Catholics should observe each of them.

Msgr. Michael John Witt was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Saint Louis in 1990. He served the Church for twenty-two years as a Christian Brother, teaching in Oklahoma, Missouri and Tennessee and holds a Ph.D. in Modern European History from Saint Louis University and a Masters-in-Divinity from Kenrick-Glennon Seminary. He is professor of Church history at Kenrick-Glennon and pastor of All Saints Parish in University City. He has recorded hundreds of radio programs for Covenant Network and is currently finishing a four-volume history of the Archdiocese of Saint Louis.
