I love the folks at Common.  I love what they’ve built in Mason, Ohio.  I also LOVE every chance I get out to record an episode of the Brewcast with them.  I headed out to hang out recently to see how things have been going, as they settle down after their fifth anniversary and to hopefully show you exactly why a small neighborhood brewery like theirs can 100% stand out, even in a busy beer city like Cincinnati.

This is definitely the type of show that makes me remember why I enjoy Cincy Brewcast – and I hope you have as much fun as we did!

Covid has been tough, and there are lots of places that we craft beer drinkers were worried about. The small, neighborhood places were hit hard, and at the start of the pandemic we were preparing ourselves for the worst. As we find ourselves close to the hopeful end of it all, it’s an amazing feeling to sit down in the beer garden of one of those places knowing that not only did they make it through – they are seemingly better than ever.

It’s been far too long – but it’s as good as always to sit down with owners Mark and Amy Lortz of the Common Beer Company to talk about what they’re working on. We drank a few beers, enjoyed the sunshine and hopefully give you a little sneak peek into why so many folks have fallen in love with them, their space, and of course their beers!

This week we dive into how their role has changed, evolved and defined itself from the inside out. We explore what it means to be a neighborhood brewery in a city like Cincinnati and how they listen through the noise to find what’s important and what isn’t.

Of course… along the way we also drink a few beers to keep things exciting!

I LOVE seeing new breweries open up.  I’m sure that you’ve picked up on that by now – haven’t you?  Getting to know new people, and seeing how they put their spin on something that is so important to not just me, but to people all across Cincinnati is exciting.  Watching places grow over the years… it makes me happier than I can even tell you.  That’s why this is such a great show.  We get to meet some new people!

Mason, Ohio has been desperate for a little piece of Cincinnati’s craft brewing scene for a while, and The Common Beer Company is set to join their neighbors, 16 Lots, to help continue bringing great beer to their community.

We joined the Common Beer Company crew one evening on their back patio for a couple beers and a great conversation to help us get to know not just who they are as people, but who ‘The Common’ will become as a new member of Cincinnati’s craft beer scene.  We explored their history with beer, their philosophy of what makes a good tap list, and learned a little bit about what you can expect from their taproom when they open their doors this fall.

Things are moving along quickly here… before you know it their bar will be filled with people!
