📉 Fentanyl deaths are falling.

That's not spin. That's good news.

But if America is finally "winning" the fight against fentanyl, why does the drug crisis Americans experience in their neighborhoods still look so familiar?

Tonight, Chad introduces THE MONDAY MORNING TEST.

Imagine every gram of fentanyl in America disappears at midnight. Nobody ever dies from it again.

Now walk outside Monday morning.

What's still there?

Methamphetamine.
Addiction.
Encampments.
Theft.
Public disorder.
People who are alive — but nowhere close to recovery.

That distinction exposes a much larger problem with the way America talks about addiction.

Politicians measure overdose deaths and declare victory. Programs measure contacts, referrals and supplies distributed. But where are the measurements for people getting sober, getting housed, returning to work, staying out of emergency rooms and rebuilding their lives?

This Thursday Special follows the numbers from the fentanyl supply chain to methamphetamine treatment, Oregon's drug-policy experiment, homelessness, Narcan and the federal rules that helped shape America's response to stimulant addiction.

The conclusion isn't that falling fentanyl deaths don't matter.

They matter enormously.

It's that survival is the floor — not the ceiling.

We don't have a compassion problem.

We have a scoreboard problem.

The Lindsay Clancy trial reignited America's argument over postpartum mental health and access to psychiatric care.

Chad thinks we're arguing about the wrong thing.

During cross-examination, Clancy's psychiatrist was questioned about testing she did not use—including pharmacogenomic, or PGx, testing. That testimony raises a much larger question: What happens after a patient gets access to mental health care?

Because access and quality are not the same thing.

📊 There’s no such thing as a wrong poll.

Yeah, I know. Stay with me.

A poll is a measurement. It records what a group of people said at a particular moment.

A prediction is something else entirely.

So when an election doesn't turn out the way television forecasters expected, why do we blame the measuring instrument instead of the people who turned that measurement into a prediction?

This Freedom Friday, Chad goes back through the polling “disasters” Americans think they remember — including 2016 — and separates what the polls actually measured from what forecasters, pundits and media outlets told us those numbers meant.

Then the episode takes a turn.

Because if you stop reading the headline question and start moving deeper into the same polls, the supposedly hopeless divisions in American politics begin looking surprisingly different.

Guns. Immigration. Transgender policy. Government corruption.

Again and again, the fight appears at the top of the questionnaire while substantial agreement sits a few questions below it.

Maybe America isn't nearly as divided as we're told.

Maybe we're a country with a divided questionnaire.

America is supposedly turning against artificial intelligence.

But the numbers tell a stranger story.

Americans are adopting AI while simultaneously fighting the data centers being built to power it. Meanwhile, cities are removing Flock license-plate cameras even though evidence suggests the technology can actually help solve vehicle theft.

So Chad asks a different question:

What if the backlash isn't about the technology at all?

In this Thursday Special, Chad traces $130 billion in blocked and delayed data-center projects, the collapse of Virginia's enormous Digital Gateway project over a public-notice failure, fights over Bitcoin mines, the rapid expansion of Flock's surveillance network, documented abuses of that network, and cities deciding that even useful technology isn't worth keeping when the rules come afterward.

The pattern is remarkably consistent.

It's not WHAT.

It's HOW.

And underneath the fights over AI, data centers, surveillance, zoning, power bills and public hearings is a much more optimistic story about America: people are still showing up, reading the paperwork and demanding a seat at the table.

Chad also makes the case for the other side: America needs AI infrastructure, its electrical grid desperately needs investment, and the enormous amount of private capital pouring into AI could become an opportunity to rebuild infrastructure Americans already need — if the terms are established before the concrete gets poured.

The cost of asking Americans first may be inconvenient.

The cost of circumventing them is proving much higher.

Oregon put a packaging fee on thousands of companies. There's just one problem: when you buy the product, you can't see what you're paying.

And Oregon already knows how to do this differently.

Buy a mattress and the recycling fee appears on your receipt. Buy paint and the fee is disclosed. Return a bottle and there's a dime attached to it — a dime that helped Oregon's bottle bill automatically correct itself when return rates fell.

Then you get to groceries.

Dozens of packaging rates. Thousands of participating producers. A nonprofit administering the system. Hundreds of millions of dollars eventually moving through the program.

And no comparable number on your receipt.

On this Taxation Tuesday Special, Chad Law follows the money through Extended Producer Responsibility and asks a much larger question: what happens when government stops calling a cost a tax, routes it through private institutions, and makes the final price nearly impossible for the public to see?

Beef is more expensive than ever.

So why aren't America's ranchers getting rich?

Because here's the part almost nobody tells you:

The rancher doesn't really set the price. And neither do you.

In today's Monologue Monday, Chad follows the American food system from the meat case backward — through cattle processors, patented seeds, tractor software, poultry contracts, government regulation and the $390 billion Farm Bill.

And the same pattern keeps appearing.

The farmer owns the land.
 He owns the equipment.
 He owns the debt.
 He owns the weather.
 He owns the risk.

But somebody else increasingly owns the door.

The government sends nonprofits roughly $319 billion in taxpayer money. But what exactly are taxpayers buying?

Chad starts with homelessness programs and discovers an accountability problem much larger than any one organization: nonprofits and governments frequently measure activity rather than outcomes—and sometimes the available data can't establish whether programs succeeded at all.

But this isn't an attack on nonprofits.

Private philanthropy already has a powerful accountability mechanism: the donor can stop giving. Taxpayers can't.

That distinction leads to Chad's proposed 50/50 Rule: if more than half of an organization's funding comes from taxpayers, measurable public outcomes should be defined and reported. If private donors provide the majority, government should largely stay out of the way.

Before pilots fly a plane, they train in a simulator. Surgeons practice before operating. Police officers run scenarios before hitting the street.

Politicians?

We apparently just hand them the keys to the country.

On this Satire Saturday, Chad has one request for the same tech industry that gave us Bluetooth toothbrushes, Wi-Fi egg trays and refrigerators with opinions: build the Politician Simulator.

The rules are simple. Politicians enter without their staff, wallet, car, title or connections and spend four hours living under the systems they've helped create.

Ride the transit system. Build the duplex. Navigate the permitting office. Qualify for the government program. Survive the phone tree.

And under absolutely no circumstances are they allowed to “know a guy.”

Then somebody adds a leaderboard — and Washington discovers competitive suffering.

California’s tire controversy looks like another weird California story.

Chad argues it’s something much more important.

This episode follows one tire regulation backward through the system that produced it: appointed commissioners, decades-old laws, regulatory modeling, industry stakeholders, appliance standards, rising energy costs, and agencies whose authority can continue long after the political moment that created them disappears.

But this isn’t an anti-regulation rant.

California’s successful fight against smog provides the counterexample: regulation can work spectacularly when the problem is identifiable, the result is measurable, and the public can see what it received in return. The harder question is what happens to the agency after it succeeds. 

Chad also examines why industry support doesn’t necessarily prove a regulation benefits consumers, why modeled savings can create misleading regulatory scoreboards, and why California matters even if you live 2,000 miles away.

Because the basic model — lawmakers establish a goal, delegate implementation to appointed regulators, and move on — exists across America.
