Communication and Collaboration in the Classroom with Melinda Arnost [IEP 144]

Listen Later

We’re thrilled to have Melinda Arnost on the show today for an exciting conversation around teachers and providing them not only the tools they need to successfully create and lead their inclusive classrooms but a guidebook that breaks it all down for them.

Melinda Arnost is an Intervention Specialist who currently teaches grades K-3 in autism units. She previously taught middle school and high school and has always been an inclusive advocate.

Melinda also runs a non-profit ice skating program called Gliding Stars of Northeast Ohio that assists with creating adaptive equipment for those who wish to ice skate.

Show Highlights:

  • Melinda explains what the role of an Intervention Specialist is.
  • All of the important emotional-social standards should be taught to ALL school children, not just the uniquely-abled kids.
  • Communication and collaboration in the classroom is a win for the teachers and a win for the students.
  • Melinda has a passion to share what she’s learned with other teachers.
  • Building relationships and accepting people for who they are is critical.
  • Melinda details the book she is writing, Empowering Inclusion, and what it will offer teachers.
  • Just because teachers are told what they’re supposed to do for their students, they don’t always know how to do it or why they’re doing it, and Melinda’s book will help educate, entertain, and inspire them.
