Unlike the first sign of Moses which turned water to blood for judgment, Jesus’ first sign reveals a Savior who brings life and celebration rather than condemnation. Ultimately, this story invites us to trust that God has saved the best for last in Christ, who provides goodness and mercy that far exceed our limited expectations.

While we often start the new year striving for control over our circumstances, we inevitably discover that life is unpredictable and cannot be fully managed by human effort. This realization invites us to abandon the anxiety of control and instead pursue an interactive life joined to God. Jesus subverted expectations by arriving not as a military conqueror, but as the Lamb of God who was baptized to identify with our sin despite having none of His own. By uniting with His death and resurrection through baptism, we are freed from our slavery to sin and empowered by the Holy Spirit to walk in righteousness. True life is found not in autonomy, but in surrendering our will to the Father just as Christ did, allowing Him to live through us.
