How do you get started on a vision or a dream? The first steps have a way of shaping the rest of the journey. If you get the first steps wrong, you can easily grow weary and lose momentum. Nehemiah shows us how to get started on the right path.

To accomplish what God puts on our hearts, we will need to pray and plan. Many times, we lean towards one end of the spectrum: we pray and wait and do nothing, or we plan and plan and take God out of the equation. But God’s hand was on Nehemiah as he prayed and planned.

Making a difference always starts with one person, not a group. A group comes later, but when God moves, he taps one person on the shoulder. In the world of Nehemiah, that person is him.

"Part of who we are becoming is how we live the gospel out in front of those around us. Paul ends his letter by encouraging Titus to be a good worker, to become a missionary to those around him because of the change Jesus has made in him. "

The grace and love of God are the foundation of the Christian life. Yet, many of us live as if we can lose that grace and love. Paul reminds Titus that the foundation of who we become is the grace of God.

All of us are leaders and influencers, whether we realize it or not. Paul lays out what a person who follows Jesus is to be and what character they are to have. This list is often consulted by church leaders, which is an appropriate application. But we don’t have a separate list for other followers of Jesus. So this is Paul’s teaching on who a follower of Jesus is to become.
