It has been said that “our lives reflect the 5 people we spend the most time with.” So, as we start the new year, we have to ask, “Who do we spend the most time with? Are they the right people to influence us? Do we want our lives to end up where their lives have ended up?”

Our priorities in life determine where our lives end up. If you want to know what your priorities are, simply look at your bank account and your calendar. No matter what we say our priorities are, those two things show us in black and white what they really are. As we start the new year, we need to ask: Are our priorities in the right spot? Did we end 2025 as intended? But on a deeper level, we need to ask where our priorities come from. They come from a place of seeking love and acceptance.

For many of us, hope is hard to come by. Our world feels hopeless, whether in politics, finances, relationships, or health. Yet, Advent helps us to hope when life feels hopeless.

This time of year, we see “peace” everywhere, but sometimes we struggle to feel peace in our hearts. Through Jesus, we have peace with God and the peace of God. Peace isn’t found in the absence of problems, but in the presence of God.

When life is hard, joy can seem far away. But God promises joy in His presence. We get to choose to experience joy. When we do, we learn that the greatest enemy of joy isn’t pain—it’s distraction.
