Chapter 4 begins the pivot in the book of Ephesians, as we move from the theological foundation of the gospel to how we apply it in our lives. Paul’s first application is how the gospel unites us as believers.

Paul prays that the church in Ephesus will be strengthened, meaning they were weak. Weakness is not something to be avoided but admitted so that we can experience the power of God in our weakness.

The gospel creates a new community, family, and church. This shows the world around us what we think God is like and what the kingdom of God is supposed to be.

When we become who we are meant to be in Christ, we can break down divisions and barriers inside and outside the church.

We will only discover who we are when we live in the reality of God’s grace toward us.

One of the most incredible things Paul says in Ephesians is that we have all we need in Christ.

As we search for who we are and try to decide who we think we are, the best place to begin is with who God says we are. The struggle for many of us, though, is we don’t believe what God says about us in Scripture.

The first step to rebuilding anything is to decide to rebuild it. It is easy for things to stay broken in our lives or relationships or finances to fall by the wayside. We look longingly at others who “have it figured out.” But they decided to take a step. Many of us choose not to take a step because it is hard. Throughout Scripture, many people saw things destroyed or broken, but they were rebuilt when someone said, “The time is now.”
