The Community Voices team moderated the Center for State Policy and Leadership Showcase in September. The showcase featured discussions with the Illinois Innocence Project, Research Director Dr. AJ Simmons, and the Alliance for Experiential and Problem-Based Learning.

Mark Denzler is the President and CEO of the Illinois Manufacturers’ Association. He spoke to Community Voices about Illinois manufacturing, the future of electric vehicles in Illinois and a state-wide tour called Makers on the Move.

4-H Youth Development Program Coordinator Amy Zepp and Youth Development Educator Carissa Davis spoke to Community Voices to discuss the role of the Illinois Extension 4-H program in Logan, Menard and Sangamon County. They also explained the self-driven learning that children engage in through the program. 4-H stands for head, heart, hands and health, and provides an opportunity for children to develop in all four of these areas.

New director of the UIS Center for Lincoln Studies, Jacob Friefeld, joins Community Voices to discuss plans for the center including its annual event the Beaumont Endowed Lincoln Legacy Lecture

David Becker is an award-winning, Grammy & Emmy nominated jazz guitarist, composer, producer, and educator who has performed for audiences all around the world. He spoke to Community Voices about his upcoming performance at the UIS Studio Theatre on Oct. 7 titled "Planets." The Telephone Junkies' Jacob Armbrecht (guitar/lead vocals) and Nick Kniss (guitar) join Community Voices to discuss a busy year involving two albums. Pax Telephona and War Junkies are envisioned to compliment each other as Armbrecht prepares to put the band on hold to travel and complete solo work.

When written history and historical details lost to time clash, what will persevere? "Niceties" actresses Regina Ivy and Meredith Vogel-Thomas, as well as Carly Shank, Artistic Program Director for the UIS Performing Arts Center, sat down with co-host Logan Bricker to speak about their work and passions in the acting community and what goes into creating characters. Ivy and Vogel-Thomas also shared a scene from the play that runs Sept. 27-30, 2023.

Rodd Whelpley is an author and poet from Chatham, Ill. He also manages an electric efficiency program for 32 cities across Illinois. He spoke to Community Voices about what led him to poetry, his inspiration and his first full length collection of poetry "Blood Moon, Backyard Mountain."

The Sertoma Club of Springfield is a service organization that helps various communities in the Springfield area, but their main focus is assisting those experiencing hearing loss. They provide devices throughout the community to help those with hearing issues, award scholarships to speech pathology and audiology students, and they are hosting a fundraiser walk called "Celebrate Sound." “Stamps of Hope II,” showcases Syrian refugee artwork from the Zaa’tari Refugee Camp in Jordan. The exhibit will be at Lincoln Land Community College now through October 13, 2023, before it travels to other community colleges. Rihab Sawah Professor of Physics at LLCC and organizer of the "Stamps of Hope II" exhibit, spoke to Community Voices about life in the refugee camp, the artists/artwork, and what she hopes the exhibit will teach the public.
