Bruce Sommer is the Director of Economic Development and Innovation at the University of Illinois Springfield. He teaches Entrepreneurship and Innovation, and he is the co-founder of Innovate Springfield and Sangamon CEO. He spoke to Community Voices about the move Innovate Springfield will make in two years to 401 E. Washington St., where new programs and offerings will be provided to local entrepreneurs.

The Junior League of Springfield is a not-for-profit, community-ran network that helps bring together people of all walks of life to help those in need. From food insecurity to support groups for abused children, the Junior League does its best to branch in every direction they can to help others. President-elect Rexann Whorton and former president, soon-to-be treasurer, Kenzie Anderson sat down with Community Voices to share their experiences and what Junior League means to them.

Winner of the 2013 Atlanta Blues Challenge, Timo Arthur has spent the past thirty years working as a professional musician. Arthur currently lives in Springfield after stops around the world. His piano ballad "Sing Me Into Heaven (for Eva Cassidy)" won a Runner Up award in the 2017 Song of the Year contest. Timo visited the NPR Illinois studios to discuss his art on Community Voices.

Rob Kerr is the director of the Continuing and Professional Education (CAPE) unit at the University of Illinois Springfield. This unit facilitates and develops innovative, short term, on-demand programming to help the educational needs of a variety of professionals. Rob spoke to Community Voices about the evolution of online learning and professional development courses offered by CAPE. He also gave information on five academic summer camps for high schoolers offered this year.

Gus Gordon is a local performer known for his leadership as the executive director of the Hoogland Center for the Arts and his many years working in broadcasting. He spoke to Community Voices about preparing to play Tevye in the Springfield Muni's production of "Fiddler on the Roof," and he shared behind-the-scenes stories of his many years performing on stage. He also talked about his new podcast "Original Broadway Cast," in which he interviews Broadway stars about their journey in the performing arts.

Mark Hanna, executive director of the Springfield Airport Authority joins Community Voices to update progress on renovations, routes, and the 75th anniversary of the Abraham Lincoln Capital Airport.

NPR Illinois hosted its first LISTEN session, a program designed to hear feedback about the media from unheard parts of the community. For this first session the Community Voices team visited Southeast High school to ask students what it's like to be a student today, how they find news and how the media can change to entice younger listeners. The Skyview Drive-In theater has been a staple for the Litchfield community since 1950. Since then, the owners of the business have changed hands from one family to another over the years. Mindy Pastrovich sat down with Logan Bricker and Community Voices to discuss how she and her family cared for the business since 2016, and how they have continued to keep the family-owned tradition alive through the new owners, the Hebenstreit family.

Nalo Mitchell is the Executive Director of the Springfield and Central Illinois African American History Museum. She sat down with Vanessa Ferguson on Community Voices to discuss how she plans to increase outreach in the community and provide inclusive exhibits. She also shared information about the many things to see in the museum and how her family history ties into one of the featured exhibits.
