Compassion should be the driving force for your career choice

Welcome thank you for joining us again, this week on the podcast we are going to focus on career choice using the action steps in this book to do so.

We are going to use a career as a case study: social work, I have become friends with a few social workers and here are some insights I have gotten? Interviewing one.

In any relationship love is not enough, I think love can get you going but for you to have a successful relationship you always have to Err on the side of compassion. In episode three, we discussed how relationship is a tool in activating our compassion, this is not a repeat of that episode.

The most important virtue of a leader is integrity and our character as leaders of ourselves, organizations and our families goes a long way in showing our core values to people around us.

A core value of a compassionate leader is the result of their decision making process and what they put in consideration when making a decision. Let's explore a situation where a leader took action and it was considered a compassionate leadership.

This thought resonates with me because nobody ever expects to be displaced by war, violence, or hate. Too often we blame people who find themselves in desperate circumstances, and label them as we see fit to suit our political needs. Migrating to the United States helped me to better understand the many reasons people leave their homelands, but you don’t need to share these experiences in order to have compassion for people in need.

Be severe only with yourself by Marcus Arelius, one of the things that separates us from other people—indeed that has been responsible for our success—is our ability to be strict and self-disciplined. Where other people are fine making excuses or taking shortcuts, we are not. Where other people wing it or do what’s easiest, taking the path of least resistance, we don’t.

Compassion literally means “to suffer together.” Among emotion researchers, it is defined as the feeling that arises when you are confronted with another's suffering and feel motivated to relieve that suffering. But can I suffer together you might ask.

The first step towards activating something is knowing you have it in you or not. As explained in the previous episode with the dollar example, if you have not listened to the last episode please do so because this podcast is a series.
