A number of unregulated melatonin products sold in Australia have been found to be 400 per cent stronger than advertised, while some had no active melatonin at all.
Following testing in its laboratories, the Therapeutic Goods Administration is now urging patients to stop using unregistered imported melatonin products immediately.
It comes days after the ABC revealed that Australian poisons hotlines received about 1500 calls last year about children ingesting melatonin, marking a dramatic spike on previous years.
