Give us this day our daily bread... We often overlook the mundane nature of life: our morning routine, packing a lunch, the conversations we have, our daily drive. But it is in the ordinary that we experience the rich, regular blessing of God. From the love and kindness of a mother to a simple meal with a friend, we celebrate Jesus’ eternal joy that is ours as we pray for everything we need in a day.

If God is in control of everything, why should I ask for anything? Isn’t it all according to His plan? We want a lot, dream a lot, hope for a lot. God’s kingdom is most certainly coming, God has invited us to be in on the plan.. That means our prayers can change a lot- we are ushering God’s kingdom into our hearts and lives. But God invites us to bring all of our wants and desires before Him, and to submit our wants, desires, and will, to the will of our kind, good, and loving God.

Our Father, who art in heaven... It seems crazy, but Christians believe we can approach the God who created all things and who stands outside of all things. What gives us the right? What would allow us that kind of opportunity? Jesus has paved the way for us in prayer, enabling us to come before our holy, heavenly Father. Whether we feel unworthy or overwhelmed by this, we’ve been invited into the presence of God. Let’s take up the invitation.

Love begets love. Love grows and expands. Boaz and Ruth, connected in God’s love, began a family that would expand God’s Kingdom of love eventually to every corner of the earth. We don’t know what God will do when we as Christian families live out a legacy of love, but let’s see what kind of legacy we can leave.

Love is really hard work. Now we say we love pizza, pancakes on Saturday mornings, all sorts of stuff. But real love work ls hard for the sake of others. Ruth was willing to sacrifice for her mother-in-law (and Boaz was willing to sacrifice for them both), giving an example for all Christians on how to serve in love.

Jesus unites all people into the family of God. And when we start with that as our connection point, we can face all the joys and struggles, blessings and challenges. We celebrate that “where you go, I will go,” that we have the same God, the same eternal home.
