(Matthew 7:1-2) In this session, Andrew Selley highlights that we are becoming increasingly bold and arrogant these days and, even as believers, we can be just as harsh as the world when it comes to judging others. Social media has allowed for one-sided judgement in the name of justice; however, this sense of justice is actually lawlessness, which can create a state of disorder. Let us align our ways to Scripture, not the world.

There is so much turmoil in the world, and many of us desire to drown it out and find peace. As believers, we battle daily with our fleshly desires, but the Holy Spirit wants to give us peace in the battle. In this session, Daniel Barnard unpacks the fruit of the Holy Spirit, and how it transforms who we are and how we love—He enables us to live a life that pleases God. Our hearts were made to be filled with God’s perfect love, and in the Holy Spirit, we can know God and find peace. 

During this time together, saints were drawn closer to the Lord and His purposes—aligning their hearts to love like Him, live by His Spirit, and prioritise the lost. As we grow in the fruit of the Spirit, especially Christlike love, we are knit together in deeper unity, becoming a true reflection of Jesus to the world around us. 

What does it mean to be a sinner? Have you defined a list of actions that are deemed ‘sinful’, trying your best not to do these things? In this session, Rick Neufeld demonstrates that many of us have misdefined sin and lawlessness, thereby corrupting God’s perfect law with our man-made lists. Matthew 22:37-40 shows us that our entire being must be devoted to loving God and loving one another. The only way to live like this is to put to death our own nature and receive the life of God. 

How do you make decisions as an eldership team when facing complicated matters? In this session, Andrew Selley continues to unpack how eldership teams work together to navigate shepherding the church. As individuals, we have many different inclinations and perspectives, but we are called to hear Jesus’ will for His people, together. Andrew advises on the processes of decision making when the team is divided on a matter—the Lord has put structures in place for the sake of His church. Shepherding God’s people is never reliant on one man; He values working in team.

The Limits of Our Judgement | Andrew Selley

We received the mandate to reach the lost—are we, as leaders, answering God’s commission to evangelise? In this session, Daniel Barnard stirs church leaders to not only encourage other saints to share the gospel but prioritise it ourselves, crying out to the Lord in prayer and fasting for specific people to come to faith.  As we remain in His love through our obedience (John 15:10), let us then be obedient to the Scriptures we already know so well, telling the world that Jesus made a way for us to be reconciled to the Father. 

Elders are called to lead under God’s authority, shepherding His people with wisdom, humility, and unity. In this session, Andrew Selley unpacks leading in team, even when the team is not in full agreement. In plurality, elders bring diverse perspectives, and together, seek God’s will. Though the team has a leader, his strength lies in the accountability and insight of his team. Even in disagreement, we reflect the humility of Jesus—submitting, serving, and seeking unity. In all things, elders are to be courageous, discerning, and united in building His Church.
