Motherhood seems to make us women think that we need to have it all together, handling every situation that arises on our own. There seems to be this unwritten rule that mom's have to be able to fix everything and keep it all together in the process. That's just not true.

This idea that mom's have to sustain themselves AND their families is actually unbiblical. God is the one who sustains us. We have to give him permission to hold us up, keep us going and supply everything we need. That's what we chat about today in this special Mother's Day episode of the podcast with a fun baking analogy.

Mother's Day is right around the corner and I want to take a few weeks to really highlight the impact our mother's can have on our lives. What does it mean to do things FOR God vs. WITH God? Aren't we supposed to do things for God... you know share the Gospel, obey what he says, etc? Yes you are! But the fulfillment of doing those things comes when you do them WITH God. Leaving him out of the equation is not something that we should be doing as    Christ followers. Today my friend Jen and I discuss this very topic and give you some practical take aways on how you can start doing things WITH God and experiencing the fullness of life God has for you.

Jen Weaver is the host of "Good God Talks", a podcast helping you connect with God through uncommon conversations in everyday moments. Her most recent book is "A Beckoning to Wonder: Christian Poetry Exploring God’s Story." This collection of beautifully illustrated poetry helps you to feel God as close and present in the Bible and in your life. • Being in scripture is where we  have a shared relationship activity with God
• There is a difference between talking at god and with god.... doing things for god vs. with god
• Look at what you believe about god that causes you to respond in a way that is works based
• Is the way you respond to god based on the biblical truth of scripture?
• God has always been in pursuit of your heart with loving REDEMPTION
• Ways that God can talk with you:
  • supernatural peace
  • through circumstances
  • external confirmation
  • listening while praying

Today is allll about the Bible and I am geeking out about it! You all know that I LOVE talking Bible and how you can be excited about getting into it. My friend Liz is all about the same thing... teaching you how to be in scripture! Our conversation is one you can't miss! 

Liz Cobo is Bible teacher and writer focused on encouraging Christian women to become biblically literate through daily study of God's Word. Liz is currently writing her first book on the topic of contentment and is a student in the Christian Apologetics Master's Degree program at the Talbott School of Theology at Biola University.

Here are my take away notes from our chat! 

• the Bible can feel overwhelming, remember that you learn as  you go along so stay consistent in your time with God 
• Daily Disciplined Devotion to being in God's word is KEY! 
• Being in scripture gets you up close to Jesus
• the Bible is focused on God not you.... the Bible is written FOR us not to us or about us - get your mindset in the correct perspective to receive what it says 
• Commentaries & word studies are great ways to go deeper in your scripture reading
• Devotionals & Bible studies are the dessert of getting into the Word of God - you need to be in the Bible outside of those things
• Ask God to reveal more of himself to you through prayer before you ever open up your Bible to read

Today's conversation is such a blessing to each of us who listen with hearts and minds ready to receive. We are talking about God's call for women with Beth Guckenberger! And it's not what you think!!

Beth Guckenberger is the Co- Executive Director of Back2Back Ministries, an international orphan care organization serving orphaned and vulnerable children in ten locations around the world.  She is the author of fourteen books  including her newest book, Warrior of Eden: How Curiosity and Questions Lead to Understanding God’s Call for Women. 

Some of my biggest take aways from the conversation: 

• Good teaching leaves you with more questions than answers
• Hebrew word: Ezar - help someone can’t give themselves 
• Being everything that God created us to be should not minimize what God created our spouse to be, it should maximize it! 
• The 4 commands of the great commission were given to both men and women. 
• Don’t feel satisfied with what you know and have at this moment about the Bible, continue to search scripture for more of God and more of who you are because of Him. 
• When your interactions with your spouse become more transactional than relational.(listen at ~19 min. mark!) Key word… intentionality of time! 
• You are released to be exactly how God made you!

What does it look like to love bravely? How can community help us with a brave love? How does compassion go along with all of this? My guest today, Juli, answers these questions and so many more in her latest book, Brave Love.

After nearly two decades of working in a hospice tucked away in the remote Kenyan village of Kipkaren River, Juli Boit has gathered a collection of stories that reveal the essence of her courageous and compassionate journey. Her new book, “Brave Love: A Nurse’s Story of Courage and Compassion in a Kenyan Hospice” is a powerful testament to the transformative power of love and will be released on November 6, 2023. Brave Love invites readers to explore the heart and soul of hospice care in Kenya, offering a beacon of hope in even the most challenging circumstances.

In her book, Juli dives deep into the essence of love in challenging circumstances, something we can all relate to. And Juli will tell you that loving your neighbor can happen anywhere - both in a Kenyan hospice and right down the street.

Here are some of my biggest take-aways from our conversation! 

• Keep track of the faithfulness of God by journaling or writing it down so you can look back later and be reminded of his faithfulness 
• Being brave is more than not being afraid, its about trusting that if God is leading us somewhere we can know it’s for our best and his glory 
• We can show up for others in knowing we aren’t alone, but God is with us and brings along community to walk with us 
• When we separate ourselves from the possibility of pain we are also separating ourselves from the possibility of joy
• Now, Here, This - even though we’d rather be in a different situation how can we look at where we are now and know that God is here with us in this moment 
• Ask Yourself.... What does it look like to love in this situation? 
• Allow God to interrupt your plans, you’ll be so glad you did! 
• We never arrive in a place in our Christian walk where we won’t need to actively trust God any longer, we need to continually choose to trust the Lord no matter what

Easter is almost here!! I hope you are as excited as I am!! What the cross means to us as     Christians won't make a lot of sense to the world and that's okay. We can live in and experience the resurrection power of Jesus Christ every day of our lives whether other's understand it or not!

My friend Samantha Semans joined me for this fun and powerful conversation on the topic of Easter this week. She is the founder of The Abundant Woman Collective, wife, momma and life changing friend. Easter is fast approaching and I'd like to ask you where your heart is at.... is it prepared to celebrate the greatest event in human history or is it in more of a lackluster position as  the day draws closer?

Either answer is okay...take a moment to be honest with yourself. Wherever you are God is there with you! I would love if you'd journey with me over these next two weeks as  we take time to position ourselves in a way that brings God glory and reminds us what Jesus did for us on the cross. My good friend Baylor is joining me this week to talk about how we can be thankful for the cross. What we can do in our every day lives to be more grateful for the salvation the cross  brings anyone who believes in Jesus and accepts him as  their savior.

A hot topic these days is breaking generational cycles.... setting a new tone for our future and the future of our children... healing wounds and walking in freedom. Isn't that an amazing topic to talk on!?? That's exactly what we chat about this week on the podcast. Kristen Hallinan is a sought-after writer and speaker, passionate about helping women redeem the pain of their past and move towards a healthier and more hopeful future. She enjoys working with teen moms, crisis pregnancy centers, and serving as a pre-marital mentor with her husband Shawn in Dallas, TX. Laughing with and chasing after her four children helps burn off the calories she consumes of her favorite treat—homemade gluten free churros.

I had an amazing time taking with Kristen.
A few of the things that were HUGE takeaways for myself were: 

• Healing is possible but it takes time 
• Our voices matter! 
• Breaking generational cycles happens after we get our day to day lives under control with the help of healthy coping skills & lots of Jesus
• Other people may not understand, receive or respect our new boundaries and there are healthy Biblical ways to handle that 
• Joyfully accepting change in our lives requires us to trust God fully

Doesn't having an uncomplicated life sound absolutely amazing?? Simplifying life and not being dug through each day by the chaos that is the world. I know one thing, this is something we all need whether we realize it or not! My guest today is giving us some simple secrets that can take our lives from overwhelmed to uncomplicated.

I'm joined today by my mentor and friend, Brenda Yoder. She is a counselor, speaker, author, and educator. You may have read one of her other books, Fledge: Launching Your Kids without Losing Your Mind and Balance, Busyness and Not Doing It All. She is the cohost of the Midlife Moms Podcast and Facebook group and also hosts and writes the Life Beyond the Picket Fence podcast and blog, covering a variety of topics on faith, life, and family beyond the storybook image. Brenda is currently a part-time elementary counselor and therapist in private practice. She and her husband, Ron, are parents to four adult children and two daughters-in-law, and grandparents to three grandsons with whom they love creating new memories. Brenda and Ron live on a farm in Shipshewana, Indiana, where she loves gardening and spending evenings sitting in her front porch rocker.

In our chat today she shares with us a few of the 10 timeless lessons drawn from past generations that she writes about in her new book, Uncomplicated. Some of my biggest take aways from our conversation were: 

• Contentment - not striving or reaching for more but being content with where you are and what you have 
• Practicality - making practical decisions that lead to a less complicated life and home
• To have uncomplicated thinking - to be okay with failure because that's when we learn the most, not to dread if something goes wrong but to embrace the learning opportunity 
• To simply start somewhere - we don't have to try and adopt all of these things in our life today in order to have an uncomplicated life but we can start today with one and slowly watch the transformation happen
