The Detention and Records Departments are critical functions of the Tempe Police Department, and play a vital role in the criminal justice system, ensuring that accurate and timely records are maintained, and that those who are detained receive safe and appropriate care. The CARE 7 program is a trauma informed crisis response team provided by the City of Tempe composed of professionals who provide high-quality on-scene intervention and victim services. When dispatched by Tempe Police and/or Tempe Fire Medical Rescue, CARE 7 will respond to incidents including domestic violence, serious auto accidents, sexual and physical assaults and more. In this episode, you’ll hear from Sergeant Ron Elcock and CARE 7 Supervisor Anastasia Stinchfield from CARE 7 as they discuss the importance of collaboration between law enforcement and mental health professionals in responding to sensitive cases.

Law Enforcement employees face numerous challenges and dangers every day, which comes with the potential of a having a significant impact on their mental health. As a department, we are committed to providing our officers with the resources and support they need to cope with the stress and trauma that come with the job. We join Wellness Coordinator Brad Hollingsworth and retired officer Lindsay Long to speak on the resources available to our officers and support staff, and also to highlight the importance of acknowledging secondary trauma and reducing the stigma associated with seeking help for mental health related issues.
