Brockway residents filled the Brockway Borough Council's meeting room Thursday as they asked the council to address some of their grievances.

Brockway business owner Ron Matson came to demand that the council be more open with the Route 219/Route 28 intersection project.  Council President Chris "Smoke" Benson told Matson that the council has been open and has not hidden anything from him.  He said that the council has made all information available, and that the map Matson seemed to think was a secret map was not official.  Matson left the meeting with copies of everything the council had on the project.

The rest of the gathered residents had come to ask the council to help with a noxious odor coming from Martino's Bilo.  The residents claim that the dumpster behind Martino's is often open and has a smell that makes the children in the area vomit.  The residents have talked to Martino's, but the issue has been ongoing for many years.  The council will send a letter to Martino's, hoping to find a way to mitigate the odor.

Sunny Student of the Month with Cole Orthodontics!

Brockway Area School District would like to nominate Sylvia Pisarchik as the Sunny Student of the Month! Sylvia is currently a senior at Brockway who is referred to as a great person and student! She is a hard worker in her academics as she has taken dual enrollment courses along with numerous AP courses.Sylvia is active in Cross Country and Girls Golf and is a member of Chemistry Club, Ski Club, and National Honor Society. She currently serves as the President of INAM ( the anti-bullying committee ) and works part-time at Prime Athletics in DuBois as a gymnastics coach.

She plans on attending Duquesne University majoring in Biochemistry. Following that she plans on attending the medical school of her choice for Dermatology.

As legislators return to Harrisburg, a new poll is showing a groundswell of bipartisan support for criminal justice reform legislation, including probation and occupational licensing reform bills in the House and Senate.

The new poll, released today by the Justice Action Network reveals that Pennsylvanians across the political spectrum overwhelmingly support measures to “significantly improve” the state’s criminal justice system, with 75% voter support for probation reform and more than 80% support for occupational licensing reform proposals.

The poll was released as advocates flood the capitol building for a probation reform advocacy day hosted by FAMM.

A young Brockway boy was featured recently at a video presentation in Times Square for Down Syndrome Awareness Month.

More than 3,000 photos were submitted to the presentation, and 3-year-old Jack Stine’s photo was one of 500 that were chosen.

His mother, Marie, said they got to travel to the heart of New York City to see the video, but they also got the chance to be a part of the annual Buddy Walk for families of people with Down Syndrome.

Jack is a happy boy who loves the outdoors, kick a ball, play with his dog, walk to his Grandma's house, and color.

Marie is proud to say that Brockway and the surrounding communities have always been very supportive and inclusive.
