Brookville Council hopes to get a head start on plans for the 2020 census.

Last night, Councilwoman Karen Allgeier was appointed to head an ad hoc committee charged with assisting residents in completing the census and making sure everyone is counted. Having an accurate population count is critical to the borough’s funding.

In the 2010 census, Brookville’s population fell only 76 residents short of the 4,000 needed to continue its status as an entitlement community. Since then, the borough has lost about $100,000 a year in Community Development Block Grant funding.

The Brockway FFA Spring Plant Sale at the Brockway High School will be open May 8, 14, and 16 from 2:30 until 5 p.m. Saturday sales will be held on May 11 and May 18 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Stand-up comedian, actor, director, and television host Bob Saget was given the Gold Medal Award from the PAB. Pittsburgh Steelers Hall-of-Fame running back, Jerome Bettis, received the Janet and Lew Klein “Making a Difference” Award in honor of his community service work.
