Brockway doesn’t seem to be much closer to solving the ongoing intersection situation in town.

The Brockway Borough Council met Thursday and addressed the intersection issues.

State Senator Joe Scarnati's office has secured money for communities to use on road projects.  Brockway is able to get the money, but there is a lot of concern about the project's specifics.

The concerns stemmed from a proposal image where a new intersection was superimposed over a Google Maps image of town around Sheetz, Brockway Drug, and the Rocky Grill.

While that was just an image used to pitch the idea, and not a permanent design, the business owners in that area raised concerns that it would negatively impact their businesses.

Brockway borough met with PennDOT to discuss that matter, but since that meeting did not answer all the borough's concerns, the borough asked for an extension before agreeing to the next phase of the project.

She is also a Leadership Enterprise for a diverse America cohort 14 scholar. Her goals for the future are to find a career she is passionate about and work towards changing the world for the better. She is currently thinking about majoring in Comparative Literature or political science!

Lawmakers gathered in Harrisburg recently for their annual Civic Commemoration of the Holocaust.

Part of the focus this year was never letting another Holocaust happen.

Senator Jay Costa says when using the phrase “Never Again” to refer to the Holocaust, it means that we never forget the six million Jews whose lives were taken. But he says it also means that we must call out anti-semitism and hate whenever and wherever we see it, and we must continue to speak out until we have banished it entirely to guarantee that another Holocaust happens “Never Again.”

In addition to the victims of the Holocaust, speakers took a moment to honor the lives of the 11 people who were killed in the Tree of Life synagogue shooting in Pittsburgh last year, as well as one person who was killed at another synagogue shooting just last weekend in California.

Senate Bill 589 was approved by the Senate Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness Committee and sent to the floor of the Senate for a vote. The Military Family Education Program – or PA Family GI Bill – will enable Guardsmen and Guardswomen to earn educational benefits for their spouse and/or children by committing to a second obligation of six years with the Pennsylvania National Guard.

The ten-semester benefit will pay for the equivalent of five years at the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education tuition rate. If it passes, it would be the first of its kind in the country.

Senator Lindsey Williams of Allegheny County, Democratic Chair of the Senate Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness Committee, is the prime co-sponsor of the bill.
