A couple of customers, Rich and his wife, had been driving up from Pittsburgh to see the elk in Benezette when they heard about the new dispensary and stopped to fill the wife’s prescription.

Yesterday was the opening day for the first medical cannabis dispensary in DuBois.

The Herbology Dispensary on South Brady Street, in the former Simpsons Communications building, saw heavy traffic yesterday. Some people with medical cards stopped in to pick up products and other people stopped just because they were curious and wanted to know more about medicinal cannabis.

The Sears store in DuBois will be closing after the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. It’s one of 142 unprofitable Sears and Kmart stores owned by Sears Holding that are set to close by the end of the year. This is in addition to 46 other locations that we previously announced, which are expected to close by the end of November.

Just in the past 5 years, Sears Holding has declined from nearly 2,000 stores in 2013 to now operating only 687 Sears and Kmart stores. There’s no word yet on how many jobs will be lost from the DuBois Sears.

The stores will remain open through the holidays, but the DuBois Sears will likely close by the end of 2018. Liquidation sales are expected to start shortly.

The new Ashley HomeStore will open near the DuBois Mall this Thursday. The previous By the Room furniture store closed in earlier 2018.

By the Room had been a part of the MillerHome Furniture and Mattress Company.

Now Pam Miller, the president of MillerHome, will also be the owner and operator for the new Ashley HomeStore.
