In the wake of tragic officer-involved shootings across the commonwealth and the nation, House and Senate legislators will introduce a package of bills when lawmakers return to session later this month regarding police management and community relations.

Senator Jay Costa of Allegheny County says the legislation will provide improved training for police to know when to use force, particularly deadly force, and promote better relations with the communities they police. It will also make enhanced mental health services available to police and community members.

Pennsylvania – It’s a really great time to look for a job. The Labor Department says the number of open positions in July exceeded the number of people looking for work by more than 650,000. Economist Diane Swonk says it’s forcing employers to rethink how they recruit candidates and how they’ll handle the gap from Baby Boomers leaving the workforce.

Clint Puller was 25 when he was struck by a vehicle while crossing a road in South Carolina in September of 2006.

His parents, Ray and Gail Puller, have turned their loss into an amazing act of love by holding a Red Cross Blood Drive this Saturday at Evangelical United Methodist Church (30 South White Street) in Brookville.

The Brockway Area School District’s new school year is off to a good start! According to Superintendent Jeff Vizza, who is in his first year in the position, his visits to both buildings in the district have been positive.  He also lauded the board’s approval of an after-school tutoring program for elementary students.

“I’ve been extremely impressed with the start of the year,” Vizza said.  “I’ve had the opportunity to go to both buildings over the past couple of weeks and see the teachers engage students and smiles on students’ faces, it’s been excellent.  You can tell there’s a positive climate in the buildings.  That’s a tribute to everyone working together as one.”

Miller Home Furniture and Mattress was eager to show off their fresh look at their store in Falls Creek last night.

Pam Miller says it’s part of a rebranding for how things look inside, but they’re still the same people at heart, based on the same principles.

Miller’s Furniture was founded in 1969 in Hudson, PA, a small village outside of Punxsutawney. Founders Dorothy and Jesse built the business with hard work and living by the phrase “Come as a customer, leave as a friend.”

Business owners and community members came out to meet with members of Penn Highlands yesterday to get how the new 8-part expansion project might provide a boost to our towns and our economy.

The $111 million project is set to be completed over the next three years, with most of the major projects happening at the DuBois hospital campuses.
