Chronic Wasting Disease (or CWD) is affecting deer and elk throughout Pennsylvania. Come to the Jefferson County Fairgrounds in Brookville on Saturday for a free seminar.

The discussion will be held at the fairgrounds from 9 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. to hear from experts about what CWD is, how fast it can spread, how it could affect our deer and our economy, whether it can be transmitted to other animals, what hunters/residents can do to stop the spread.

Turn our Downtown DuBois stores into your tasting room! The Downtown DuBois Grapes and Hops Walk will be this Saturday.

Tastings will be available at stores throughout the downtown area from 3:30 until 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $30.

DuBois Area Superintendent Dr. Luke Lansberry gives an interview about the ongoing situation with mold in some school buildings.

Although DuBois high school students are going back to class today after the school had been closed for a week, now the DuBois Middle School is closed for mold concerns.

Tests came back that the air quality at the high school is fine, but precautionary tests at the middle school showed that 12 rooms and two cafeterias have air quality and mold issues.

The middle school auditorium, gymnasium, and locker rooms have been cleared and are approved for use. In addition, the main office area and special education office area have also been cleared.

Athletic events and the Community Concert will be occurring as scheduled.

The DuBois Area Middle School will be closed again on Friday, Sept. 21.

DuBois is celebrating the kind of people who make the world a better place. Manda Shaw is being honored today with the Silver Ribbon Award, which is given each year to a professional who serves their community.

Manda Shaw works at Paris Companies in DuBois, but she also spends much of her time outside of work serving on several non-profit boards and volunteering with a variety of groups, including pastoral work at the hospital, benevolence work, and with the youth group at her church.

Lucas Knarr and Heather Gilga talk about how DuBois Area School District and the National Honor Society are raising money for Make-A-Wish this year for Homecoming.

Brockway Area High School hosted a mini-debate between Representative Cris Dush and challenger Kerith Strano-Taylor on Monday.

The two candidates met up as Brockway teachers Rachel Chamberlain and Erin Schiafone promoted Constitution Day. 

Students asked the candidates questions, which mostly came to funding for schools and roads.

Dush, who touted his work finding secret ledgers of state money, explained that the reason he ran for office was to fight the corruption in Washington and Harrisburg.  Taylor felt that corporate tax cuts and Harrisburg not meeting their obligations were causing the current funding climate.

Both candidates stressed the importance of the Constitution and the right to vote. They encouraged students to get involved.

As many as fleeing away from the disaster areas of North Carolina, the DuBois Humanitarian Riders are literally helping to ride out the storm. Ten of their members will be leaving DuBois early Thursday morning to bring supplies to a Salvation Army center in a flooded North Carolina town, and they still are asking for some supplies to take with them.

Their trailer that they will be taking to North Carolina is currently parked at the DuBois Salvation Army building on South Jared Street. Members will be there throughout the day each day until 4 p.m. on Wednesday.

They are asking for any items that might help, especially non-perishable food items that can be eaten without electricity or gas, plus paper plates and utensils, cleaning supplies, hygiene products, pet food, and cash donations.
