The lesson from the past was to build trust and confidence in the promises of God for the present.

In Scripture, God gives values to possess more than directions to follow, which can lead to tension in the practice of life. Mammon is more than wealth: it is what we put our ultimate trust in and it is unrighteous when it is not God.

Many things are out of our control and we need to trust God in them even as we focus on what God would have us do.

A new heaven and a new earth is both something we look ahead to in its fullness and are presently a part of us history develops.

Running with grit is looking ahead, fixing our eyes on Jesus. Discipline is to train us today for tomorrow’s victory. As you stay in the race you give inspiration to for others to stay in the race as well.

It must take more evidence to change a conviction (your core foundation) than change an opinion (a preference you hold in varying degrees)

A life of impact is a life that perseveres. We will not all make an impact in the same way, but can make an impact in some way.

Do not be anxious about anything is a call to trust God in everything.

Following Jesus goes deeper than behaviors it permeates the attitudes. Paul uses this hymn/poem not primarily for its theology, rich though it is, but for its application. We are to adopt the same mind as was reflected in Christ.

Living a life worthy is a life characterized by service, where individuality and diversity are designed to build up the body of Christ.
