Eric, who is originally from East Tennessee, received a Ph.D. in social psychology from Arizona State University. He is currently an Associate Professor of Psychology at Albion College, where he has taught for almost 10 years. In general, his research examines the relationships among religious fundamentalism, cognitive styles, and prejudice, though he has a wide variety of research interests including life meaning, meaningful coincidence, scale construction and validation, and gender.

Laurence Browne was born in the UK in 1951 to parents living in the Far East and spent much of his childhood there, though at the age of nine was sent to boarding school in England. After completing secondary school in 1969 (Radley College, Oxford), he came to Australia working mainly as a teacher of English as a second language. He is married with two daughters and lives in suburban Brisbane

He has been interested ever since his early twenties in the possibility of an inner truth and has been a regular meditator since the 1970s. In 2009 he gave up teaching to pursue a PhD in Philosophy at the University of Queensland, gaining his doctorate in 2014. The title of his thesis was Examining Coincidences: towards an integrated approach. In 2017 this was turned into a book released by Imprint Academic, Exeter, U.K. under the title The Many Faces of Coincidence.

Over the last couple of years he has been particularly interested in the topic of coincidences in literature and has written two journal articles on the subject. The first of these, ‘Coincidence in Fiction and Literature’, was published in 2019 in the Australian Journal of Parapsychology.

Ralph Lewis, MD, is a psychiatrist at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre in Toronto, Canada; an assistant professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Toronto; and a psycho-oncology consultant at the Odette Cancer Centre in Toronto. He works primarily as a clinician in a time-intensive hospital-based practice. He is the author of the book Finding Purpose in a Godless World: Why We Care Even if the Universe Doesn’t and a blogger for Psychology Today.

Dr. Lewis obtained his MD (MBBCh) in 1990 at the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa, where he grew up. He completed residency training in Psychiatry at the University of Toronto in 1996 and went on to do a two year clinical research fellowship jointly at Sunnybrook and the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (formerly the Clarke Institute of Psychiatry), with a concurrent Master of Science in Neuroscience at the University of Toronto. He has held his present staff physician appointment at Sunnybrook and his faculty appointment at the University of Toronto since 1998.

Ralph, his wife Karin and their three children try to live purposeful, inspired lives in a godless world—appreciating the random, precarious, and precious nature of life and knowing that while the universe doesn’t care, people can and do care.

Dr. Martin Sand works at the Department of Values, Technology and Innovation at TU Delft as a Marie Skłodowska-Curie-Fellow with a project on “Moral Luck in Science and Innovation”. He studied „European Culture and History of Ideas” at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) focusing on philosophy and ethics of technology. Sand obtained his PhD in 2018 with the thesis „Futures, Visions, and Responsibility-An Ethics of Innovation“, which was completed at the Institute of Technology Assessment and Systems Analysis (ITAS).

The thesis was supervised by Prof. dr. Armin Grunwald (KIT) and Prof. dr. Ibo van de Poel (TU Delft). Sand is a member of the editorial board of the Springer journal Philosophy of Management and a member of the Serendipity Society. During his PhD, he taught business ethics and engineering ethics at the Technical University Kaiserslautern and Baden-Württemberg Cooperative State University Karlsruhe.
