Ever wondered about how SEO works or if you really need to put any effort into it just yet? Then today’s interview is for you. I’m speaking with Brittany Murphy, the marketing director at One Thing Marketing in Louisville Kentucky and an expert in web design, SEO, and lead generation. Have a listen to how she went from having to look up what SEO was before her job interview to having perfected her craft by writing and implementing over 300 SEO strategies for happy clients. Oh, and listen right to the end because she drops a fantastic nugget just as I had my finger on the stop recording button.

(Also, apologies for the audio; my regular set up is broken and the borrowed replacements are not great; hoping to have the improved set up in action soon.)

It’s always interesting to see how other creatives and professionals work, isn't it? To see what their environment is like. Where they take inspiration from. How they actually do the work. And so I thought I’d share a bit about my process, a peak behind the curtain, as more and more of us realize we are content creators.

When you practise strategic communications, you have to include research. Research is what grounds your next steps; it will point you in the right direction, provide you with ideas and opportunities, it will show the gaps. Basically, if you don’t have good information to base your decisions off of, then you’re guessing. But how do you do this research without getting lost in a ridiculous amount of worthless information? Have a listen to today's episode as i lay out exactly how to use social media to research your messaging and content.

How many times have you heard that the money is in your email list? So you offer a freebie in order to collect email addresses from interested people (aka "warm leads") and consider yourself very happy. But have you thought about how you communicate with the freebie seeker during that initial exchange? Are you doing more harm than good in your effort to build your list? Have a listen as I discuss why to avoid what I call a scuzzy email practise.
