Do you ever end your day thinking: “I messed up again. I snapped at my kids. I didn’t play enough. I’m failing as a mom.”
In this episode of Conquer Mom Stress, we’re digging into the real reason moms feel like failures—and it has nothing to do with how good of a mom you actually are. It’s called negativity bias, and it’s the brain’s survival mechanism that makes you cling to the mistakes while forgetting the wins.
This constant self-criticism feeds mom guilt, fuels burnout, and makes motherhood feel heavy, exhausting, and joyless. But here’s the good news: once you understand what’s happening in your brain, you can rewire it. You can shift from constantly feeling like a “bad mom” to actually seeing and celebrating the great mom you already are.
Why moms feel like failures even when they’re showing up with love every single day
How negativity bias works (and why your brain is stuck replaying the worst parts of your day)
The connection between mom guilt, stress, and burnout—and how they feed each other
3 simple strategies to break free from guilt, calm your mind, and finally start enjoying motherhood again
“Feeling like you’re failing as a mom isn’t proof that you are—it’s proof that your brain is doing its job.”
“Negativity bias tricks you into focusing on the one thing that went wrong instead of the 100 things you did right.”
“You can’t enjoy motherhood if you’re always stuck in survival mode.”
"My grace is sufficient for you, for power is made perfect in weakness." — 2 Corinthians 12:9

Motherhood isn’t supposed to feel this overwhelming. But let’s be honest—some days it feels like stress, burnout, and guilt are running the whole show.
If you’ve ever found yourself thinking ‘Why can’t I just keep up? Why does everyone else seem to have it together while I feel like I’m failing?’ — you are not alone.
Hey mamas! Welcome to the Conquer Mom Stress podcast. I'm Jill Gockel, mom of 5, personal development junkie, and lover of all things simple. If you’re ready to step into your God given role of motherhood with more joy and less stress, this podcast was made for you.
I have been involved in mom coaching since 2013 and one thing I’ve learned over the years in that realm is that mom stress is a recurring cycle that can pop up at the least expected times. And if you don’t have the skills to stop the cycle, you will spiral down the hole of mom guilt, burnout, and exhaustion, leaving you depleted and sometimes depressed.
That’s why I created this podcast, to help mom like you understand what’s happening in your brain and body when stress takes over—and show you how to calm it, reset it, and finally enjoy motherhood again.
Because here’s the truth: being a good mom isn’t about being perfect—it’s about being present.
And since I’m still in the throws of motherhood myself, I can assure you that I am regularly being hit with moments of stress, exhaustion, and burnout, feeling like I’m failing as a mom and screwing my kids up. Which means I am constantly on the hunt for understanding why this is happening and what to do about it.
One thing you’ll learn about me is that my life motto is that things don’t have to stay this way. No matter what’s going on to cause you stress, there is always a way out, you just have to find it. And that is exactly what I’m dedicated to doing, helping you find your way out of mom stress and back into the joys of motherhood.
On this show, you’ll get practical tools you can actually use in the middle of mom life chaos, encouraging stories that remind you you’re not the only one, and faith-filled inspiration to lift your spirit when you feel like giving up.
As always, you can find out more and connect with me over at jillgockel.com.

Hi! I’m Jill. :) A wife, mom of 5, and recovering control freak… otherwise known as a perfectionist. For years I struggled with burnout, mom guilt, and feeling like a failure as a mom. Overwhelm and constant stress made it feel like the weight of the world rested on my shoulders alone, sucking the joy out of motherhood.
I finally realized that if I wanted to raise happy children and enjoy motherhood, I needed to focus on my own emotional health and mindset first. And from there, my kids would follow.
So I created a plan. One that put God first, seeking His wisdom instead of Google’s, building a relationship with Him instead social media. And a crazy thing happened. As my mind got into alignment with God, my kids’ attitudes completely changed. The house got cleaner. My patience grew. And I found myself smiling again and setting goals for my life as a mom.
If you’re ready to stop worrying constantly about your kids, the house, and what you’re doing wrong so you can finally find peace, balance, and joy in daily life as a mom, this podcast is for you.
So grab your warm cup of tea and your fuzzy blanket. It’s time to dive in!
