We had faced an unprecedented year full of doom and gloom. However at Conservative Friends of the Commonwealth, we had some fantastic moments of positivity which we share in our Year Review. CEO Paul & COO Sunil share their thoughts on a remarkable year.

We discuss with Michael Chertoff a variety of subjects from UK-USA relationship, Donald Trump, COVID-19, Joe Biden, the future of politics, cyber-security, China and much more.   Michael Chertoff, an American attorney who was the United States Secretary of Homeland Security serving under President George W. Bush. As Secretary, he led a 218,000 person department with a budget of $50 billion.  Mr. Chertoff developed and implemented border security and immigration policy; promulgated homeland security regulations; and spearheaded a national cyber security strategy. In 2009, he co-founded the Chertoff Group, a risk-management and security consulting company.

Helen Grant and Sunil Sharma hold a hugely insightful discussion about diversity in politics, the future of the Commonwealth and Britain’s place in the world

Following an unprecedented year, we at the Conservative Friends of the Commonwealth held our annual reception virtually. We discussed the incredible year we have had as well as forthcoming plans including future webinars and manifesto plans. We were also joined by our parliamentary chair Helen Grant MP.

Dr Luke Evans is a Member of Parliament for Bosworth in Leicestershire. Using his medical expertise he explained more about Covid-19, the economy as well as revealing a new bill he was proposing with regards to body image and social media. 

Robert Spalding is a senior fellow at Hudson Institute. His work focuses on U.S.-China relations, economic and national security, and the Asia-Pacific military balance.  Spalding has served in senior positions of strategy and diplomacy within the Defense and State Departments for more than 26 years, and is an accomplished innovator in government and a national security policy strategist. As Senior Director for Strategy to the President, he was the chief architect of the framework for national competition in the Trump administration’s National Security Strategy (NSS).  

We discuss Robert's groundbreaking book Stealth War: How China Took Over While America's Elite Slept. He demonstrates how China has waged a six-front war on America's economy, military, diplomacy, technology, education, and infrastructure - and they're winning. In the book he reveal China's motives and secret attacks on the West. His concern isn't merely that America could lose its position on the world stage but more urgently, that the Chinese Communist Party has a fundamental loathing of the legal protections America grants its people and seeks to create a world without those rights.

Robert Zoellick discusses his new book with George Osborne (former Chancellor of Exchequer) 

Robert B. Zoellick has served as Deputy Secretary, Under Secretary, and Counselor of the State Department; Ambassador and U.S. Trade Representative; Counselor to the Secretary of the Treasury; Deputy Chief of Staff at the White House; and President of the World Bank. His experience spans six U.S. Presidencies-during the Cold War, in its closing chapter, and into the first decades of the 21st Century. Zoellick is now a Senior Fellow at the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs at Harvard University's Kennedy School of Government, where he contributes to the "Applied History" project.

Conservative Friends of the Commonwealth's Sunil Sharma and Sir Lynton Crosby discuss his history masterminding elections across the Commonwealth.  

Sir Lynton Crosby is an Australian political strategist who has managed election campaigns. He has been described as a "the Wizard of Oz", as well as being called "one of the most powerful and influential figures in the nation.” Crosby first became involved in politics with the Liberal Party of Australia, eventually being appointed federal director of the party in 1997. He oversaw the party's successful campaigns at the 1996, 1998, 2001, and 2004 federal elections, which made the Howard Government Australia's second-longest serving federal government. He has since also run Conservative campaigns for the 2008 and 2012 London mayoral elections, as well as the 2015 general election, all of which resulted in victories for the party.
