  • Trope on a Rope – Abortion – Transgender Civil Rights

    Episode 38

    Trope:  What is a trope?

I’ve lived 45 years on this planet without hearing that word.  It’s all the rage these days:

“Don’t fall for the gas lighting trope.”

    “He’s using a racist trope.”
“She’s alluding to an antisemitic trope.”

As I was researching what exactly a trope was, I discovered I may have heard it before after all.  It’s a literary term describing plot development.  So in our modern psy-ops politics this term has been co-opted to describe a sly way of inferring something dastardly without overtly signifying the thing itself.

But I’m here to tell you:  It’s ok.  Most likely the user of the word trope may indeed be spinning their own trope of deflection.  Yes indeed, they may be using an old political trope by accusing an adversary of using a trope.  How can we survive stuck in this terrible trope!

Just remember:  Omar can criticize Israel on the Palestinian conflict without casting you into an antisemitic trope.  Trump can point out inner city squaller without alluding to old racist tropes.  But if you fall into the divisive pitfalls of hyperbolic partisan politics, then you may be falling into the oldest political trope of all.

Abortion and the Death Penalty.  Hypocrisy on both sides:

Link: Iowa Mom Gives Birth at 23 Weeks:

Link: Senate Bill to Ban the Death Penalty:

    Correction:  DNC Convention Reform

    Or corruption solidified?

    Link: Super Delegate Reform:

    Fact Checker: Eduardo

    Transgender in the military.

Trump has banned their ability to apply.  I have changed my mind on this topic, and I believe that they deserve all equal rights under the law, and this last right would secure those equal rights.  Ren Pellerin, a combat service veteran disagrees, and joins me in studio to discuss.

  • Corruption in Your Face
Photo By - Pawel Czerwinski If you cannot see the audio controls, your browser does not support the audio element EP-036 This episode is about a recent example of corruption by a professional play actor, and how it ties into another clear case of corruption by the Democratic National Committee. No change will come without holding corruption accountable. But it must come from within. Luis Hernandez phones in to ask a question. Tweet of the Week: Michael Tracey has been blasting media pundits that tricked and duped the American public for two years advancing the false and salacious narrative surrounding RussiaGate. The Tweet of the Week calls on the fateful "Russia if You're Listening" campaign joke by President Trump. Let’s start it off! Jussie Smollet! The smelter of the truth. The great fabricator. He is a trained faker after all. This story will not go away! First, unimaginable victim of hate from ignorant white men. No, not just ignorant, but evil white men. Attacked in the middle of the night for being black and gay. These hateful Aryans apparently were Empire fan-boys, and out to rid this world of another successful black gay man. The tail hearkens back to terrible crimes of recent past when James Byrd, a black man, was drug behind a pick-up truck to his death in 1998. Or Mathew Shepard, a gay man, who in 1998 was tied to a log and beaten to death. Real horrific crimes that shocked our entire nation and shined a light on an extreme hatred against minorities by monsters that live among us. Those are real stories our nation had to deal with. Instead of dividing us, these stories urged all of us to stamp out this kind of hatred and correct the errors of our past. Jussie Smollet used these tragic events to his advantage. Hate crimes are real, and they are terrible. They are not tolerated by society. But quickly after the reports of Jussie’s attack his national news. A harrowing escape of a hate crime turned into a botched hoax by a conniving, privileged, greedy, opportunist. You see, hate crimes are rare. They are horrible. The same media that tracks how divided our nation is, also seeks stories to amplify this division. But we aren’t truly divided by race or sexual orientation. We are simply divided by narrative. Black men, gay women, white people, virtually all people demanded justice when the Smollet hoax was revealed. There is enough narrative and legitimate political reasons we are all divided, our society cannot stand for a play actor taking advantaged of horrific crimes of the past to forward his career and political leanings. It seems these days, the victim is the great status we can achieve in our society. But here is where I need to deviate from the broader discussion within our modern punditry. The brightest light is not being shined on hatred in America, but corruption. And there is a clear line directly to the corruption within the Democratic party and the power structure that continues to obfuscate, dismiss, and cover up clear corruption at the highest levels. In the end this story is not about a divided society on color and sexual preference lines, but class and political influence. 16 felony counts against Smollet for creating the hate crime hoax were brought from the evidence by an independent Grand Jury. These charges were dropped this week. Look the case made national news. I'm not going to litigate the details of the hoax. It's a messy, gross, and incompetent hoax. While the 16 felony counts may sound like overkill, we citizens demand justice when someone seeks to take advantage of our legal system to benefit themselves. And that's where my larger point comes into play. Kim Foxx, the Cook County State's Attorney, known associate of Presidential Candidate Kamala Harris received a phone call from Michelle Obama's former Chief of Staff urged her to move the investigation from the Chicago police to the FBI. At first Foxx recused herself in light of the political connections and pressure, but then took the rei

  • EP-035 Honesty Within the Immigration Reform Debate
Live from the Smokin Js podcast studio in Olympia, Washington. This is the immigration reform podcast! Too many topics are not discussed on main stream media, and yet they are the aspects most important to the American public. But hey, a wall is easy to understand and divide people with. #enjoy So here we are in the middle of a government shutdown, or a partial shutdown, or a everyone will get paid government vacation.  Whatever you want to call it, President Trump has drawn his own line in the sand marrying immigration reform to the partial vacation shutdown. We've had shut downs before.  I won't cry for the government worker who is living without pay for a few weeks.  All jobs carry risks, even the cushiest jobs in the country.  No political party or pundit cares about the government worker on vacation.  The real issue is immigration. The real issue is the border wall Trump promised Mexico would pay for in his 2016 election.  First let's look at the campaign promise.  We are going to build a wall, and who's gonna pay for it?  "Mexico!" cheers the Trump supporters.  As I pointed out on Episode 10 of The Conservative Hippie podcast, Trump proposed he would get Mexico to pay for the wall by holding wire transfers from the US to Mexico hostage.  Some 20+ billion dollars are transferred from the United States to Mexico each year.  These transfers act as defacto welfare the Mexican government doesn't have to provide its poor citizens.  This detail of the "Make Mexico Pay For It" campaign promise has been largely forgotten and completely ignored by main stream media.  President Trump certainly did not promise to hold US government services hostage so that American citizens would pay for the wall. Second let's understand that the wall is not the only issue for immigration reform.  In the Presidential Address from the Oval Office, President Trump claimed that 90% of dangerous illegal drugs flowed into America through our southern border.  This claim is factual if you include ports of entry, not just illegal border crossings.  What is lost in all partisan bickering over the wall is the necessary funding and reform necessary to secure our international ports of entry.  This part of immigration reform has been left out of the public debate as "the wall" takes hyperbolic precedent. Third our bureaucratic overlords have completely left out penalties for employers that hire and encourage illegal border crossings and Visa over stays.  Any legitimate and sincere immigration reform would have to include penalties with teeth for rewarding this illegal behavior.  The onus must not be placed on the immigrant or refuge for seeking freedom in the land of opportunity.  The onus must be placed on businesses that take advantage of these people.  Pundits often say that we need illegal immigrants to provide the services that Americans won't perform.  This is complete hogwash.  No country on the planet incarcerates more of its citizens than the United States of America.  So many of our impoverished citizens never have an opportunity to take these low level jobs.  Furthermore, taking advantage of illegal immigrants drives down wages.  The low level jobs that pundits claim Americans won't do is unworthy in some respects because of the cheap labor available to perform these jobs.  All of these factors create an environment directly opposed to upward mobile opportunities for the very Americans that need it the most.  To me, this immigration reform debate is leaving out the exact Americans that are affected by illegal immigration, poor disenfranchised Americans. Fourth like so many issues facing our federal government, immigration reform is tossed back and forth between parties like a game of divisive hot potato.  Words of the past are forgotten, impending challenges of the future are ignored.  All for sympath

  • EP-034 Portland Culture Wars and Tweet of the Week
This EP is sponsored by ME!  No pan handling here. Sean Wilkening is back for another visit to discuss recent Culture Wars in Downtown Portland and how they extrapolate to the broader divisive problem in the United States. Tourists Stuck in an Antifa protest. Video of Elderly Man stuck in Antifa protest. Crosswalk Cathy: @MrAndyNgo Covers Jumping to Conclusions and the Ramifications. Tweet of the Week: @helena_jennie Interview with James Douglass Recently I came across a powerful tweet by @helena_jennie in which she posts a 45 minute interview with James Douglass, author of JFK and the Unspeakable.  He studied the prominent assassinations of the 60's and through this analysis has drawn striking conclusions about the United States. He talks about the personal responsibility of evil.  Recognizing that the evil done on this world by our government is not the responsibility of an uncontrollable monolith, but by you, by me.  Taking responsibility that we are the government. Just look at how upset people are getting these days over partisan political bickering.  Not even about actual political policy, but simply words.  People are fighting for the right to be righteous and powerful over one another where as in reality they simply differ on a very basic political opinion.  Frivolity has given way to hyperbole, and we are on the verge of cultural hysteria. But underneath it all we enable a militaristic jobs program that slaughters humans across the globe.  Let's be clear, war is an industry and it employs and empowers tens of thousands of Americans.  We are directly responsible for deaths in Afghanistan, Yemen, and Iraq.  Right now, you and I.  We are responsible and profiting. Douglass draws parallels from our current societal structure to the book 1984.  It's a fascinating interview and wonderful source to probe your own thoughts on American imperialism.
