I got a great question from a listener today regarding how to talk to his young 20-something children about politics and the current events. Young people are often pretty liberal and discussing these things can be difficult. But there is a way! Through engaging them in polite, respectful conversation and asking their thoughts on events, you can gain an understanding of their perspective. If there are fallacies in their argument, you can have a chance to correct them. Ultimately the goal is not to strong arm them into your belief, but to show them the truth of “what is” verses the fallacies of what “should be.” Liberals of all ages often linger in the world of “should be” and it’s a beautiful place, but it isn’t reality. Whether your talking with a liberal young adult or not, approaching them with polite compassion is 100 times better than seeking a fight.
