One hundred episodes. One hundred examinations of claims that the world is not what it appears to be — that behind the events presented to us as natural, spontaneous, or inevitable, there are patterns, intentions, and actors whose existence changes the meaning of almost everything. We began with the assassination of John F. Kennedy. We examined the suppression of Tesla's free energy technology, the moon landing, the Flat Earth, the Illuminati, the Rothschilds, MKUltra, Chemtrails, the Bilderberg Group, the fake pandemic, the Great Reset, 9/11, adrenochrome, the Freemasons, CERN, Operation Northwoods, the Deep State, QAnon, the Committee of 300, Operation Gladio, and dozens more. And in this hundredth episode, we ask the question that underlies all of them: not whether any individual theory is true, but whether the consistent pattern across all of them points at something real about how power works, about the nature of the institutions we live inside, and about what it means that so many people, in so many countries, across so many decades, keep arriving at the same suspicion.

In this episode of The Conspiracy Theory Analyst, we step back from the individual trees and look at the forest. We ask what the body of conspiracy theory, taken together, is actually describing. And we ask whether the label "conspiracy theory" — deployed as a social mechanism to end inquiry — has served the interests of truth or the interests of those who benefit from the absence of public scrutiny.

The consistent thread across the cases we have examined is not supernatural. It is structural. The documented conspiracies — MKUltra, COINTELPRO, Operation Northwoods, Operation Gladio, the Iran-Contra affair, the BCCI banking scandal, the tobacco industry's concealment of cancer research, the opioid manufacturers' fabrication of addiction data, the financial industry's packaging of fraudulent securities — establish beyond any reasonable doubt that the following things are real: powerful institutions lie systematically when lying serves their interests; they coordinate when coordination serves their interests; they suppress evidence, intimidate witnesses, and corrupt regulatory processes when doing so is profitable; and the individuals responsible are almost never held accountable, because accountability requires the cooperation of institutions that share the same interests as the institutions under scrutiny.

This is not a theory. It is history. It is the documentary record.

Founded in London in 1947, the Tavistock Institute of Human Relations has spent over seven decades studying the social, psychological, and organisational dynamics of groups, institutions, and societies. Its founders included figures from British military psychological operations, the wartime propaganda establishment, and the emerging discipline of social psychiatry. Its early work focused on the psychological trauma of returning soldiers, the dynamics of small groups, and the application of psychoanalytic ideas to organisational behaviour. Over the following decades, it became one of the most influential social research institutes in the Western world, with clients including major corporations, government agencies, the European Commission, and some of the largest media organisations in Britain and beyond.

In conspiracy culture, the Tavistock Institute is something else: the command centre for the deliberate engineering of Western mass culture. The point at which the analysis of social psychology became, in the conspiracy reading, the active manipulation of it.

In this episode of The Conspiracy Theory Analyst, we examine the Tavistock theory — what the Institute actually does and has done, the documented history of psychological operations conducted by the institutions and individuals connected to it, the specific claims about its role in the counter-culture of the 1960s and the mass media of the following decades, and whether the line between studying social behaviour and deliberately engineering it is as clear as its defenders suggest.

The documentary record is interesting and does not fully conform to either the innocent research institute version or the all-controlling social manipulation centre of conspiracy theory. Tavistock's founders and early associates were genuinely embedded in the wartime propaganda and psychological operations establishment. Its research into group dynamics, resistance to change, and the psychological leverage points of institutional behaviour was of obvious interest to organisations seeking to manage and direct large populations. The Club of Rome — the elite policy group that produced the influential Limits to Growth report — is among the organisations with documented Tavistock connections.

The specific conspiracy claims extend considerably further. John Coleman's work, again, is the primary source: his assertion that Tavistock designed the 1960s counter-culture as a deliberate operation to atomise Western society, destroy traditional family structures, promote drug use, and channel political discontent into harmless cultural expression rather than genuine political challenge. The claim rests on the documented connections between Tavistock researchers and figures involved in the Stanford Research Institute, which conducted early LSD research and had documented intelligence connections, and the suggestion that the cultural phenomena of the 1960s were seeded rather than spontaneous.

Episode 98: Operation Gladio — NATO's Secret Terror Network

In August 1990, Italian Prime Minister Giulio Andreotti disclosed to the Italian parliament the existence of a secret armed network that had operated on Italian soil since the 1950s. The network — codenamed Gladio, after the Roman short sword — had been established by NATO, the CIA, and Italian military intelligence as a "stay-behind" force: a clandestine army that would conduct guerrilla warfare against a Soviet occupation in the event that the USSR invaded Western Europe. Gladio had its own arms caches, hidden across Italy in forests and mountains. It had its own command structure, separate from the official Italian military. It had trained thousands of operatives. And it had, Andreotti acknowledged, operated outside the knowledge of Italian civilian government for four decades.

What Andreotti did not fully disclose — and what subsequent investigations, parliamentary committees, and journalistic inquiries established — was the degree to which Gladio had not merely remained dormant waiting for a Soviet invasion, but had been actively used. To manipulate Italian politics. To commit acts of terrorism. And to blame them on the left.

In this episode of The Conspiracy Theory Analyst, we examine Operation Gladio — one of the most consequential and least discussed documented conspiracies in post-war Western history — and ask what it tells us about the relationship between democratic governance and the covert infrastructure that has operated beneath it since the Cold War began.

The "strategy of tension" is the phrase used by investigators to describe what the Gladio networks were accused of practising. By staging terrorist attacks and attributing them to communist or anarchist groups, the theory holds, the networks could maintain public fear, discredit the left, and justify the suppression of political movements that NATO and the CIA deemed threatening. The Bologna train station bombing of 1980 — the deadliest terrorist attack on Italian soil in the post-war period, killing 85 people — was attributed by Italian courts, after decades of trials and retrials, to neo-fascist networks with connections to the Italian secret services. The Piazza Fontana bombing of 1969, which killed 17 people, was similarly connected to far-right networks with state links. These are not theories. They are the findings of Italian courts.

Similar stay-behind networks were confirmed to have existed across Western Europe: in Belgium, where the SDRA8 network was linked to a series of violent crimes including the Brabant Massacres; in Germany, where the Gladio equivalent was connected to the Red Army Faction period; in Greece, Turkey, France, Spain, Portugal, and throughout the continent. The scale of the infrastructure — a NATO-coordinated network of armed clandestine organisations operating within democratic states, beyond civilian oversight, for decades — is staggering when its full extent is assembled.

Episode 97: The Philadelphia Experiment — Teleportation and Invisibility

In October 1943, the US Navy destroyer escort USS Eldridge was allegedly made invisible to radar and observers, and briefly teleported from the Philadelphia Naval Yard to Norfolk, Virginia, and back — in the course of a classified experiment using Tesla-derived electromagnetic technology. The crew, according to the accounts that have circulated since the 1950s, suffered catastrophic consequences: sailors were found embedded in the ship's metal hull; others went insane; some disappeared permanently. The Navy denied everything. The official record shows the Eldridge at different positions on the days the experiment allegedly occurred. No official documentation of the experiment has ever emerged. The case has remained one of the most enduring, debated, and genuinely strange claims in the history of classified research.

In this episode of The Conspiracy Theory Analyst, we examine the Philadelphia Experiment — tracing the origins of the claim, the primary witnesses and their credibility, the Navy's official response, and what the physics of the alleged technology might actually imply about whether such an experiment was plausible within the classified research environment of wartime America.

The primary origin of the Philadelphia Experiment story is a series of annotations made in a 1956 copy of Morris K. Jessup's book The Case for the UFO. The annotated copy, mailed to the US Navy's Office of Naval Research, contained hundreds of cryptic notations written in three different styles of handwriting by what appeared to be individuals with knowledge of classified research, UFO phenomena, and an event involving the Eldridge. The annotations were signed by one "Carlos Allende," later identified as Carl M. Allen — a merchant mariner who claimed to have witnessed the Eldridge's disappearance from aboard another ship in the harbour. Allen's mental stability was disputed. His account remained the primary first-hand source for decades.

Al Bielek, who emerged in the late 1980s and early 1990s claiming to be a surviving crew member who had been subjected to memory erasure and identity reassignment, provided the most detailed first-person account. Bielek's claims extended the story to include a connection to the Montauk Project — a separate set of alleged classified experiments conducted in the 1980s at Montauk Point, Long Island, involving time travel, psychic warfare, and alien technology. The cross-contamination between the two narratives makes verification extremely difficult.

The official Navy counter-narrative is detailed: deck logs for the Eldridge show the ship was in different locations on the alleged dates of the experiment, the Eldridge never visited Philadelphia during the relevant period according to its official records, and crew members of the Eldridge who were tracked down and interviewed denied any unusual events.

Episode 96: Danny Casolaro — Murdered for Getting Too Close to the Truth

On August 10th, 1991, the body of freelance journalist Danny Casolaro was found in the bathtub of Room 517 at the Sheraton Hotel in Martinsburg, West Virginia. His wrists had been slashed twelve times. The local medical examiner ruled it a suicide. His briefcase — containing the notes, documents, and source contacts for years of investigative work into what he called "the Octopus" — was gone. It was never found. Casolaro had told multiple people in the weeks before his death that he was close to finishing the story and that he had been warned to back off. He had also told his brother that if he died, not to believe it was an accident.

Danny Casolaro was investigating something that connected a software theft case, the BCCI banking scandal, the October Surprise conspiracy theory, the Inslaw software affair, Iran-Contra, and the CIA's operations in Afghanistan, Central America, and the Middle East, into a single unified network of criminal enterprise operating beneath and through the institutional structures of the American state. He called this network the Octopus. He believed he had found, in the Inslaw case — the story of a software company whose programme PROMIS had allegedly been stolen by the Department of Justice and sold to foreign intelligence services — the thread that pulled the entire tapestry together.

In this episode of The Conspiracy Theory Analyst, we examine the Danny Casolaro case — the documented substance of his investigation, the specific evidence that the Inslaw affair involved deliberate theft and distribution of intelligence software with surveillance capabilities built in, the suspicious circumstances of his death, and what his story tells us about what happens to journalists who get too close to the right questions.

The Inslaw affair is, by itself, thoroughly documented and deeply disturbing. The company Inslaw, founded by Bill Hamilton and his wife Nancy, developed a case-management software called PROMIS that was licensed to the US Department of Justice. Hamilton alleged that the DOJ used the software, refused to pay for it, drove the company into bankruptcy, and then distributed PROMIS — with modifications — to intelligence agencies and foreign governments. A federal bankruptcy judge and a federal district court judge both found that the DOJ had stolen the software and acted with "wilful and deceitful" conduct. The findings were overturned on jurisdictional grounds, not on their merits. Congressional investigations were opened. Witnesses died. The modified PROMIS that Casolaro was tracking — which some sources claimed had a secret backdoor allowing intelligence agencies to monitor any system using it — would, if the claims were accurate, represent one of the most extraordinary intelligence operations in modern history.

In 1999, Stanley Kubrick — the most technically meticulous filmmaker in Hollywood history, the director who spent years researching and crafting 2001: A Space Odyssey, whose obsessive perfectionism was the stuff of legend — died in his home in England. Three years later, his daughter Vivian Kubrick issued a public statement. Its occasion was a mock documentary called Shooting Stanley Kubrick, in which an actor playing Kubrick "confessed" on camera to filming the fake moon landing footage used by NASA. Vivian Kubrick called the film disgusting and fraudulent. She was defending her father's name. The theory she was responding to had, by that point, become one of the most widely circulated and most creatively documented conspiracy theories about the Apollo programme.

In this episode of The Conspiracy Theory Analyst, we examine the Kubrick moon landing confession theory — the evidence its proponents marshal, the specific technical claims about 2001: A Space Odyssey's relationship to the alleged fake footage, the documented connections between Kubrick and NASA in the years before the Apollo missions, and the strange film The Shining, which some researchers have argued contains Kubrick's coded admission of guilt encoded in its imagery and symbolism.

The documented connection between Kubrick and NASA is real. NASA approached Kubrick in the mid-1960s to consult on the realistic depiction of space travel for 2001: A Space Odyssey. The film, released in 1968 — one year before the Apollo 11 landing — featured extraordinary space sequences whose technical realism was achieved using methods that had not been used in cinema before, including front projection technology that some theorists claim was subsequently used to fake the lunar surface footage. The relationship between the space agency and the filmmaker during the run-up to one of the most publicly scrutinised events in history is, at minimum, an interesting historical footnote.

The Shining theory, developed most extensively by documentary filmmaker Jay Weidner and others, proposes that Kubrick embedded in his 1980 adaptation of Stephen King's horror novel a systematic series of references to the moon landing and his role in faking it. The number 42 on Danny Torrance's sweater — Apollo 42 — the room number changing from King's original 217 to 237, the average distance from Earth to the moon being approximately 237,000 miles — the layout of the Overlook Hotel set designed to be spatially impossible, like footage shot in a studio — these are the signposts the theorists follow through a film that Kubrick notoriously changed from its source material in ways King himself found baffling and objectionable.

This arrangement, formalised at the Bretton Woods Conference in 1944 and sustained — in modified form after Nixon ended the dollar's gold convertibility in 1971 — by America's military and economic dominance, has given the United States an extraordinary and largely unearned privilege: the ability to print money, run deficits, and accumulate debt at a scale that any other nation would find catastrophic, because the demand for dollars to conduct global trade provides a structural floor beneath the currency's value.

That floor is cracking. And what replaces it — if anything — is one of the most important and genuinely uncertain questions of the current decade.

In this episode of The Conspiracy Theory Analyst, we examine the global currency reset theory — the claim that a planned transition away from dollar dominance is being coordinated by a coalition of powers and institutions, that the transition is designed to introduce a new global currency or monetary system with features that consolidate financial control in unprecedented ways, and that the timing and nature of this reset has been planned at levels of global governance that are not visible to the public.

The documented developments are significant and real. The BRICS nations — Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, joined by several additional nations in 2024 — have been explicitly developing frameworks for trade settlement in currencies other than the dollar. China has created a Cross-Border Interbank Payment System as an alternative to SWIFT. The petrodollar arrangement — in which Saudi Arabia and other oil exporters agree to denominate oil sales in dollars — has been subject to unprecedented renegotiation, with Saudi Arabia conducting oil transactions in yuan for the first time. The IMF's Special Drawing Rights, a basket currency, have been discussed as a potential global reserve instrument. Central bank digital currencies, being developed by virtually every major economy, would provide the digital architecture for a new global monetary system at a moment when the old one is under structural strain.

The conspiracy version argues that this transition is not the organic consequence of geopolitical competition and dollar overextension, but a planned demolition — a controlled collapse of the existing system to enable the introduction of a new global currency with features of surveillance and conditionality not present in physical cash, managed by a global financial institution whose accountability to democratic electorates is essentially zero. The IMF and the Bank for International Settlements are the institutions most frequently cited as the managers of this transition.

For millions of believers across multiple religious traditions, this is not metaphor. It is prophecy. And for a significant subset of that population, the events of the twenty-first century — the globalisation of governance, the emergence of digital identity and surveillance, the apparent consolidation of media and financial power — look unmistakably like the prophesied preparation for exactly this figure's arrival.

In this episode of The Conspiracy Theory Analyst, we examine the Antichrist conspiracy theory in its contemporary form — the specific individuals who have been identified by various communities as the Antichrist or his precursor, the institutional preparations that are read as signs, and what the persistence and spread of this framework tells us about how religious prophecy and modern political anxiety interact.

The list of figures who have been identified, at various times and by various communities, as the Antichrist or a significant precursor includes: Barack Obama, frequently cited in evangelical American communities due to a combination of his name's perceived resonance with "Antichrist" in certain transliterations, his speaking style, and his advocacy for global governance frameworks; Pope Francis, cited in certain Protestant and traditionalist Catholic communities as the False Prophet of Revelation; Klaus Schwab of the World Economic Forum; Henry Kissinger, whose death in 2023 was mourned by conspiracy communities who had used him as a Antichrist-adjacent figure for decades; and, in certain Islamic traditions, figures whose identity has shifted with geopolitics. Basiago claims to have been transported to the Ford Theatre on the night of Lincoln's assassination and to have appeared in a photograph taken at Gettysburg in 1863. Al Bielek, who died in 2011, claimed involvement in the alleged Philadelphia Experiment of 1943 — an operation said to have rendered a US Navy vessel electromagnetically invisible, with the unintended side effect of transporting it through time. The Montauk Project claims, originating from a group of former alleged participants in the 1980s and 1990s, describe a classified facility on Long Island that conducted time travel, psychic research, and mind control experiments using captured alien technology.

The documented case for classified physics research at the frontier is real. The US government's programmes in psychokinesis and remote viewing — Project STARGATE — were declassified and confirmed to have operated for decades. The UAP disclosure of recent years has included admissions about classified programmes studying advanced materials and phenomena not consistent with known physics. The gap between what classified physics research is doing and what the public is told represents a space in which theories about time travel capability are not, a priori, impossible to situate.

Around 360 BC, the philosopher Plato described, in two dialogues, a great island civilisation in the Atlantic Ocean. Atlantis, as he described it, was a naval empire of extraordinary sophistication, whose people grew corrupt and whose island sank into the ocean in a single catastrophic day and night as divine punishment for their hubris. Plato attributed the story to Solon, the Athenian statesman, who had received it from Egyptian priests who claimed the events had occurred 9,000 years earlier. Whether Plato intended Atlantis as historical fact, philosophical allegory, or political metaphor is disputed. What is not disputed is that the story has driven one of the longest-running and most productive archaeological controversies in human history — because the possibility that it describes a real civilisation, destroyed before the beginning of recorded history and leaving only traces, is one that serious researchers have not been able to fully rule out.

The archaeological case for a real civilisation behind the Atlantis story is circumstantial but not trivial. The Minoan civilisation of Crete and the island of Thera — modern Santorini — experienced one of the most catastrophic volcanic eruptions in human history around 1600 BC, destroying the Minoan settlement at Thera and generating tsunamis that struck the civilisation's coastal settlements. Many archaeologists have proposed Thera as the most plausible historical referent for Atlantis, with Plato's 9,000 years a mistranslation or misremembering of 900 years. The fit is imperfect but substantial.

Other locations proposed for Atlantis include the western Mediterranean, the Caribbean, the Atlantic Ridge, Antarctica (in the Graham Hancock framework, wherein a civilisation existed during the last Ice Age when ice-free land was more extensive), and underwater structures off the coast of Cuba, the Azores, and the Bimini Islands in the Bahamas. The Bimini Road — a linear formation of limestone blocks discovered underwater in 1968 — was described by some researchers as a constructed road or wall, and by others as a natural formation. The debate has never been definitively settled.
