The construction industry is a complex beast.
Fragmented in so many ways, but still, the ties that bind construction
companies together remain tungsten strong – project-based contracts, supply
chains, sub-contracting, project portfolios, and so on. Any movement in one
part of the industry is likely to be counter-balanced and resisted by the
relative inertia created by the majority rest of the industry. As a major
client and regulator of the construction industry, government has a key role to
play in promoting innovation. One complex beast meets another complex beast.
What might we reasonably expect from government in advocating for change in the
construction industry, and is there any way we can contribute to a broader
innovation agenda?
