According to The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) they reported that in the first month of the ‘Phuket Sandbox’ program since its launch on 1 July 2021, over 14,000 foreign tourists visited Phuket, and the revenue they generated for the local economy amounted to 829 million Baht.

The Thai government has barred media from disseminating fake or distorted news and news that could stir fear regarding the COVID-19 outbreak, effective from today (Friday), with a threat of censorship if violations are made.

The Phuket governor has ordered the entire island sealed off, with travelers from other provinces not allowed to enter Phuket starting from Aug 3, while the fate of the Phuket Sandbox scheme is yet to be determined.

Thailand covid numbers - There were record highs of 165 Covid-19 fatalities and 17,669 new cases over the past 24 hours, the Public Health Ministry reported on Thursday morning.

Thailand covid report - There were a record 16,533 new Covid-19 cases, along with 133 fatalities, confirmed over the previous 24 hours, the Public Health Ministry reported on Wednesday morning.

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has estimated the intense Covid-19 situation will affect the country for the next two to three weeks or four weeks at most, said Deputy Public Health Minister Sathit Pitutecha.

Thailand Covid logged a record 15,376 new Covid-19 cases and 87 new fatalities over the previous 24 hours, the Public Health Ministry announced on Monday morning, taking the country's accumulated caseload past half a million.

The Phuket Provincial Public Health Office (PPHO) has reported 28 new local infections on the island for yesterday (July 25), bringing the total number of local infections in Phuket for the past seven days to 84.

On Saturday morning an 80-year-old man infected with Covid was found dead on the street, making the 4th dead person found on the streets in Bangkok. The elderly man's body was found lying beside the Victory Monument at 7.30am.

New Phuket rule passes
Foreign visitors participating in the Phuket sandbox scheme will be allowed to visit other tourist spots after seven days starting from Aug 1.

Another Phuket Sandbox rule change - Starting Sunday (July 25), all people traveling from within Thailand wanting to enter Phuket must present RT-PCR or rapid antigen test results confirming the arrival is not infected with COVID-19 issued by a medical facility within 72 hours before arriving on the island.

According to the report, the 18 new local infections bring the total number of infections confirmed on the island since Apr 3 to 870.

Airlines nearing the brink of collapse
Over 20,000 employees from seven airlines are on the verge of losing their jobs if the ban imposed on domestic flights is prolonged to three months without help from the long-awaited 5-billion-baht soft loan from the government, according to the Airlines Association of Thailand (AAT).
