Every time the forecast even whispers the word “snow” down here, the grocery store turns into a zombie movie with shopping carts. Milk vanishes. Bread disappears. People act like they’re about to be trapped in the Andes for six months… when the reality is usually a couple days of icy roads and everyone staying home.

Have you ever looked at the chaos unfolding in our world and wondered if we're living in times as dark as those that prompted God's judgment in Genesis? In this first installment of a multi-part series, Todd examines Noah the Prepper—the man Scripture identifies as finding favor with God when the rest of humanity had descended into complete moral corruption. For the Christian prepper, understanding what Noah faced and how he responded provides a biblical framework for navigating our own unprecedented times with wisdom, faith, and practical readiness. This episode explores the sobering reality that mankind, left unchecked, inevitably trends toward evil—a pattern repeated throughout biblical history and evidenced in our modern world. Todd unpacks why believers who prep must develop keen situational awareness, not just of physical threats in parking lots and public spaces, but of the spiritual and cultural currents shaping our society. Drawing from 1 Chronicles and Christ's own teachings about discerning the times, this discussion challenges the dangerous tendency of faith communities to withdraw from cultural engagement while the world deteriorates around them. For any Christian prepper serious about protecting their family and living faithfully in turbulent times, the lessons drawn from Noah's story aren't optional—they're foundational. This episode equips you to recognize the signs of societal decay, maintain the spiritual disciplines that keep your own heart in check, and cultivate the kind of awareness that separates those who are truly prepared from those merely going through the motions. Housing is broken. Rent is insane. Mortgages are brutal. And because of that, something old is becoming new again: multi-generational living. In this episode, I talk through why more families are stacking back up under one roof, why this isn’t some fringe prepper idea, and how it’s quietly becoming one of the most practical adaptations people are making right now. This isn’t nostalgia or ideology. It’s math, pressure, and reality.

Most preppers assume their fire-making capabilities are squared away—a lighter in the drawer, maybe a ferro rod tucked into a bag somewhere. But owning fire-starting tools and actually being able to create fire under pressure are two very different things. When temperatures drop, conditions turn wet, and your hands are shaking, the gap between "I have a fire kit" and "I can reliably make fire" becomes the difference between recovery and catastrophe. This episode challenges you to honestly assess whether your fire-making setup and skills would hold up when it actually matters. Todd breaks down the hierarchy of fire-starting tools and why the order matters, examines the critical preparation steps that most failed fire attempts skip entirely, and addresses the technique errors that plague even experienced outdoorsmen. Beyond the mechanics, this episode tackles fire kit philosophy—what actually belongs in a compact, reliable kit versus what just takes up space. From understanding why certain budget options consistently fail to knowing how to source dry material when everything around you is soaked, the discussion moves through the practical realities of fire-making that armchair preppers rarely consider. Fire-making isn't just a wilderness survival skill—it's foundational to emergency preparedness, self-reliance, and your EDC strategy. Whether you're building redundancy into your everyday carry or pressure-testing your current fire kit setup, this episode delivers the essential knowledge that separates those who think they're prepared from those who actually are. These are the skills that matter when the grid fails and modern conveniences disappear. Episode Page on EP.886 Of Interest

Have you ever let a disagreement over politics and faith destroy a relationship that took years to build? In a world where division seems to be at a fever pitch, Christian preppers face a unique challenge—maintaining the connections and community networks that true preparedness requires while navigating the landmines of political and religious discourse. Todd draws from his years of experience curating preparedness content to explore why the ability to engage with people who hold different viewpoints isn't just a social nicety—it's a critical preparedness skill that could determine the strength of your network when it matters most. This episode dives deep into the cost of allowing politics and faith to sever the relationships that form the backbone of any serious preparedness strategy. Todd examines why politicians and public figures don't care about the friendships and family bonds that get sacrificed in their name, and challenges listeners to consider a more mature approach to dialogue. For preppers who understand that community and trusted relationships are among the most valuable assets in any crisis scenario, this conversation offers essential perspective on protecting those bonds without compromising your core values. The ability to find shared values with others—even those across the aisle—may prove invaluable when survival and preparedness matter more than political allegiance. Christian preppers who master this skill position themselves to build stronger, more resilient communities. Listen now and consider how you might strengthen your relationships while staying true to your faith and convictions.

In today's episode, Patrick with Grid Down Comms Up discusses winter preps and observations from last week's Verizon Wireless outage. With a massive winter storm on the horizon, determining how much heat and fuel you need is critical to being prepared. Electricity for critical power needs from batteries and generators can keep us operational and provide a bit of normalcy. Are you ready? Observations from the recent Verizon outage include second- and third-order impacts of a fragile telecommunications system, and considerations as our systems become more fragile and have lower uptime than the historical norm.
