What is an elder?

An Elder is a spiritually mature man in the church who is called to help others reach spiritually maturity and avoid dangers to our faith.

What is the most powerful thing a Christian can do?

Maybe you think it’s forgiving wrongs, turning the other cheek, enduring persecution, or telling people about the gospel. All those things are powerful and essential to the Christian life, but the single, most powerful thing a Christian can do… is pray. Prayer is interesting, isn't it? Christians have the privilege of communing with the author of life and yet prayer is often relegated to asking God for things when we are in trouble, or when we need to transition to the next part of Sunday service. But God never designed prayer for this. God designed prayer to give us life, and to change our lives, and to change the lives of those around us!

It may come as a surprise to some, but the vision of Convergent Church isn’t to become the largest church in town, nor is it to have the nicest building, our own Christian school, or the most dynamic programming. It’s so much bigger than that! Because we could do all of those things and still not make a dent on the lostness in our city.

In this sermon, Pastor Dan casts the vision of a new city—a city where people are rescued by Jesus from their sin, living in submission to His will, and reaping the blessings of His kingdom. This is a place where active faith in Jesus isn’t the exception but the norm! We believe this vision aligns with what God desires to do in Owosso.

In Matthew 6:10, Jesus teaches us to pray: “Your kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.” This is more than a prayer; it’s a call to action. It’s Jesus’s desire and God’s ultimate plan for the fullness of time. So the real question is: “Why not here, why not now?”

The call is clear: we are invited to partner with God in bringing His kingdom to Owosso.
