  • Decoding Synchronistic and the Self - Jean Shinoda Bolen, M.D.

We all strive to understand the moments that touch and transform our lives.  Let's explores the inter-relationship between these meaningful coincidences and our intuitive sense that we are part of some deep oneness with the universe. By relating the concepts of Tao and synchronicity, Dr. Bolen reveals important links between psychology and mysticism, right brain and left, the individual and the external world.

Jean Shinoda Bolen, M.D. is a psychiatrist, Jungian analyst, and author. Bolen has written several books on the archetypal psychology of women and men in the development of spirituality. She is a Distinguished Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and a Diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, a former clinical professor of psychiatry at Langley Porter Psychiatric Institute, University of California Medical Center and a past board member of the Ms. Foundation for Women, the International Transpersonal Association, and the C.G. Jung Institute of San Francisco. She is the author of thirteen books in over one hundred foreign editions.

  • Cosmic Rain & Small Comets - Dr. Louis Frank

Every minute several huge "snowballs" break up as they approach the Earth and deposit a large cloud of water vapor in Earth's upper atmosphere according to our Guest Dr. Louis Frank.   He calculated that about 20 comets enter the atmosphere each minute. At that rate, the steady stream of comets would have added about one inch of water to the Earth's oceans every 20,000 years -- enough to fill the oceans over billions of years.

Louis A. Frank (1938-2014) A native of Chicago, Frank's first professional research activities began in 1958 when he assisted James Van Allen in the calibration of the first U.S. lunar probes, Pioneers 3 and 4, as an undergraduate student at the University of Iowa. Later, Frank was the principal investigator for the auroral imaging instruments for the Dynamics Explorer Mission, the plasma instrumentation for the Galileo Mission to Jupiter, the U.S. plasma instrumentation for the Japanese Geotail spacecraft, and the camera for visible wavelengths for the Polar spacecraft of the International Solar Terrestrial Physics (ISTP) Program. His scientific accomplishments were many: he discovered the theta aurora, the remarkable configuration of auroral and polar cap luminosities that looks like the Greek letter theta hovering above the polar cap; he made the first measurements of the plasma ring around Jupiter and Saturn; and he was the first to measure solar-wind plasma funneling directly into the Earth's polar atmosphere, as well as the belt of ions around the Earth known as the ring current. Frank was a Fellow of the American Physical Society, a Fellow of the American Geophysical Union, and the recipient of the National Space Act Award.

I have traveled to Tuva, Yakutia, Altai and Mongolia and for the past 10 years I have been leading workshops and supporting people to open up their voice and sing, and some to throat-sing.” Alexandru is based in Romania.

  • Sacred Sisters: The Source of Ritual - Margie Abbott, Margaret O'Rourke

Laura Lee & Brian Tucker co-host this conversation with two Catholic Nuns: Margie Abbott, author of Cosmic Sparks, and Margaret O’Rourke, author of A Harvest of Memories. Stepping beyond their order to find new ways to express and embody spirituality, both vowed religious women reflect on the common Source inspiring spontaneous rituals and embodied spirituality, the gifts of Nature and life within a religious order. How might more women reclaim their power and find their voices in today's world?  What role can Ecstatic Trance Ritual Body Postures play in deepening our personal practice?

"We are finding new ways of expressing spirituality, learning to listen to the body which we have not appreciated before."    Sr. Margaret O'Rourke

"We come from Earth and unto Earth we shall return. The source of rituals is about realizing that Earth is sacred once and for all."   Sr. Margie Abbott

Sister Margie Abbott is a member of the Institute of Sisters of Mercy of Australia and Papua New Guinea (ISMAPNG). She has been offering retreats in Eco Spirituality since 1990. Margie’s qualifications in education, spirituality, theology, and counseling, as well as psychodrama, create a foundation for spontaneity and creativity. Her books include Cosmic Sparks: Igniting A Re-Enchantment with the Sacred .

Sister Margaret O’Rourke is a long-time member of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet (begun in 1650 France by six illiterate women with the help of a Bishop and a young Jesuit priest). Sister Margaret spent many years with her mission work among remote villages in Chile. Margaret is author of  A Harvest of Memories.

  • Western MD & Indigenous Healing - David Cumes, M.D.

Imagine a world where you could just up and dance your sickness away. This is what The San Bushmen of the Kalahari of Southern Africa do. Theirs is one of the oldest surviving lineages and cultures, and we can ask if theirs represents the oldest healing traditions, the earliest worldviews. David Cumes, a Western trained surgeon born in South Africa, reclaimed those roots when he attended the San's healing dances, was initiated by the Zulua as a sangoma shaman and, as wilderness guide, and led healing journeys through Peru, Africa, and the Sinai. What healing energy flows through the dancer? What can “throwing the bones” tell the diviner for his diagnosis? What role does ritual play in activating the life force? In bridging these two worlds for healing, we expand our ability to embrace a changing world.

  • God and the Evolving Universe - James Redfield, Michael Murphy

Awakenings that inspire and expand our view of the world, come to us in many ways, can be enriched by reading various philosophers, scientists, saints, and sages who have opened new perspectives on human nature and the universe. The visions and practices of these pathfinders are available in great abundance.  For many, such openings come during prayer or meditation and the proper use of affirmations. We need to expand our understanding of the nature of reality. And there is no better place to start than with science and the mystery of evolution. Let’s embrace experiences that shake our world, and through practice, what they show us can be nurtured and eventually integrated as a permanent aspect of our being.

James Redfield is best known as the author of The Celestine Prophecy, one of the bestselling spiritual novels of all time.

Michael Murphy is the cofounder of the Esalen Institute, the leading personal and spiritual growth center in the world, in Big Sur, California.

  • Flow: The Dynamics of Creativity - Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi Ph.D

Transform your waking life into something intentional and empowering. Flow happens when you are fully present and engaged in what you are doing and timelessly committed to the activity. Applied to any type of art or work, it creates an efficiency and clarity of purpose that feel great and can also be applied to everyday activities like brushing teeth or walking to the mailbox. It can transform your waking life into something intentional and empowering. Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi discovered that people find genuine satisfaction during a state of consciousness called Flow. In this state they are completely absorbed in an activity, especially an activity which involves their creative abilities. During this “optimal experience” they feel “strong, alert, in effortless control, unselfconscious, and at the peak of their abilities.” In the footsteps of Maslow, Csikszentmihalyi insists that happiness does not simply happen. It must be prepared for and cultivated by each person, by setting challenges that are neither too demanding nor too simple for ones abilities.

Mihaly Robert Csikszentmihalyi (1934 - 2021) was a Hungarian-American psychologist. He recognized and named the psychological concept of "flow", a highly focused mental state conducive to productivity. He was the Distinguished Professor of Psychology and Management at Claremont Graduate University. He is also the founder and co-director of the Quality of Life Research Center (QLRC). The QLRC is a nonprofit research institute that studies positive psychology, the study of human strengths such as optimism, creativity, intrinsic motivation, and responsibility.

  • Lakota People, Traditions & Prayers - Thomas Horse

Historically, the Lakota have a rich oral tradition to preserve the legends and stories that maintained their spiritual way of life. Creation stories were known only among the holy men, who passed them down through the generations. No single holy man knew all the creation myths.  Elders shared tales with young ones to preserve the culture and ensure the continuation of a people.

Thomas Horse, a Lakota member,  shares the importance of traditions and language and offers prayers.   Spirituality is a vital component of traditional Lakota living.  Wakan Tanka - the Great Spirit - receives thanks for everything on Earth.  He also sings his Sundance song along with his drum. Thomas does not claim to be a spokesperson for Lakota but simply offering an opportunity to share the beautiful prayers of the Lakota.

  • Where Metaphor, Myth & Linguistics Meet - David Elkington

We had talked about common English words with compelling historical origins that you may have missed out on from the annals of popular culture. Well, this time around, we have decided to take the route of mythology. To that end, quite incredibly, various myths (from around the world) have intrinsic ties to the evolution of some rather well-known English words.

David Elkington trained in the fine arts before switching to Mythology,  Egyptology and Biblical studies in the late 1980s. He specialized in acoustics and language at temple sites, leading to the publication of In the Name of the Gods, the highly acclaimed academic thesis on the resonance and acoustical origins of religion.
