  • HOW A FAILURE LED TO MY 4PS FOR CONVERSATIONS

HOW A FAILURE LED TO MY 4PS FOR CONVERSATIONS On this episode of Conversations About Conversations, I discuss a conversation that served as an inflection point for me. It led me down the path of developing four core elements for success in managing my business relationships one conversation at a time. Henry Ford said, "Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again, this time more intelligently." My 4Ps: 1. Plan 2. Process 3. Philosophy 4. Practice I invite you to listen to the episode to learn more… ….. >>>WATCH: Conversations The Course Preview: https://conversations.biz/preview >>>READ: Conversations: How to Manage Your Business Relationships One Conversation at a Time — Available on Amazon http://a.co/d/7Ruhapu >>>LISTEN: on Apple Podcast: http://bit.ly/ConversationsApplePodcast >>>CONTACT: [email protected] ….. • I HAD IT HARDER THAN YOU DO

I HAD IT HARDER THAN YOU DO On this episode of Conversations About Conversations, I discuss the reflective instinct to ONE UP my mentee with: "You think you have it hard—I had it harder than you do." The problem is when we don't exercise SELF-CONTROL (or thoughtfulness) in our conversations, they create results that we never would have consciously chosen. After reflecting on the conversation: a. I felt like I invalidated him. b. I felt like a JERK. c. I felt like the old curmudgeon complaining about walking 5 miles uphill barefoot in the snow to school. I didn't intend to feel any of these ways or put my mentee down. It was a good reminder to be more careful, more THOUGHTFUL and ASK MORE QUESTIONS instead of reacting with my own complaints. How often do you see people trying to one up each other about how bad their lives are or how much they've suffered? Is this a productive conversation? ….. • ARE MENTORS AND COACHES A PART OF YOUR WORLD?

ARE MENTORS AND COACHES A PART OF YOUR WORLD? Mentoring and coaching are such are part of my world that I forget how rare it is for most people to have mentors and coaches. I've mentored 17 people over the past 12 years which has been an extraordinary privilege and honor. I've benefited tremendously from having two significant mentors: one in my 20s and one in my 30s. Moreover, every Monday and Friday for the past 15 years—close to 800 weeks in a row—I've started and ended the week with a coaching call. I can't imagine what my career would have been like without the influence of mentoring and coaching. Because the demand for mentors and coaches is high and the supply is often low, I created CONVERSATIONS THE COURSE. >>>WATCH a preview for the course at conversations.biz/preview. ….. >>>READ: Conversations: How to Manage Your Business Relationships One Conversation at a Time — Available on Amazon http://a.co/d/7Ruhapu >>>CONTACT: [email protected] ….. • DEALING WITH UPSET

DEALING WITH UPSET You fear losing your clients because they're upset with you. Thankfully, you don't get a lot of practice dealing with upset clients, but because you don't get a lot of practice, you don't get a lot of opportunity to develop competence at it. One of the more challenging aspects of dealing with clients who are upset is that their upset triggers your fight-flight-freeze response and so naturally you feel like you have to fight back, run away or you just simply freeze. So, what is your plan for dealing with people when they're upset? Are you content to wing it knowing that by doing so you're unintentionally creating a suboptimal result? On this episode of Conversations About Conversations, I discuss an important part of having thriving relationships and that is being prepared to deal the inevitable conversation with someone who's upset. ….. >>>READ: Conversations: How to Manage Your Business Relationships One Conversation at a Time — Available on Amazon http://a.co/d/7Ruhapu >>>CONTACT: [email protected] ….. • MANAGING EXPECTATIONS IN SAND OR CONCRETE

MANAGING EXPECTATIONS IN SAND OR CONCRETE The problem is you say yes too quickly. Or, said another way, you have trouble saying no. You over promise without thinking things through thereby causing unnecessary stress and worry for you and sometimes your entire team. It doesn't have to be this way IF you know when to set expectations in sand and when to put them in concrete. Find out how and when on this episode of Conversations About Conversations. ….. >>>READ: Conversations: How to Manage Your Business Relationships One Conversation at a Time — Available on Amazon http://a.co/d/7Ruhapu >>>CONTACT: [email protected] ….. • ARE YOU PLAYING CHECKERS OR CHESS?

ARE YOU PLAYING CHECKERS OR CHESS? I used to play checkers in my conversations. I thought I knew what I was doing, but I was totally linear in my approach. I was good, but because I was winging it, I didn't realize I was holding myself back from achieving better results. I was fairly inflexible and the results of my conversations showed I lacked foresight. I didn't have a comprehensive CONVERSATION MANAGEMENT PLAN. Moreover, I was often baffled by how to best respond to my clients' responses to me. Over time, I learned to play conversational chess instead AND so can you. If you are winging it more than you should and don't have a process, structure or framework for your conversations, I can help you. I have two recommendations for you: 1. Read my book. It's called Conversations: How to Manage Your Business Relationships One Conversation at a Time (available now on Amazon) and 2. Contact me to schedule a free 20-minute coaching session. Email me at: [email protected] As an added incentive, if you purchase my book, I'll make myself available for TWO free coaching sessions to help you get the most out of your investment. #conversationsaboutconversations

  • GAMES HAVE RULES

GAMES HAVE RULES Ultimately, the game of conversation is the game of COLLABORATION and AGREEMENT. You win the game by EXPANDING and DEEPENING your relationships. You keep score by achieving bottom-line business RESULTS (quantitatively measured by sales, client retention, additional business and referrals). But the problem is when people are playing a game without knowing the rules, they can easily get off track, miss the mark or unintentionally leave their clients and prospects highly confused. LISTEN to this episode to find out my RULES.
