This past weekend, Mark's youngest from his previous marriage graduated high school, so it got us thinking: what are the things I wish I had known? And what can I do with that advice now?
While we all spend so much of our younger lives being introduced to the concept of success through the lens of academic test scores, athletic prowess and social popularity that tends to bias true lessons from forming in the moment.
Listen in as we discuss things like relationships, parenting, and of course courage & fear, success & failure.
Cheers!

Until next time—be well, be courageous.
As a bookend to last week's episode, the tables turn and Mark interviews Ashley on what it was like growing up as a Black Biracial woman from New Jersey, and how her evolution shifted from wanting to fit in to having no choice but to stand out.
Enjoy!

"Shame dies when stories are told in safe spaces."
In this episode, Ashley interviews Mark on what it was like growing up and how his perspective changed from “I don’t see color” to “it’s impossible not to see color”.
The evolution of thought is often littered with false narratives and a whole lot of bias. Breaking through the friction that is meant to hold us back require intentionality, empathy, and a willingness to change.
Enjoy!

This week, Ashley and Mark discuss their personal experiences and struggles with perfectionism, achieving greatness, and battling self- doubt.
We're just able to scratch the surface with this episode because it's truly a loaded topic. We believe that we're perfectly imperfect, but the messaging and imagery we take in from around us can really mess with our sense of self-worth.
And then there's imposter syndrome and having one or multiple marginalized identities...
whew! It can feel like a lot.
We hope you enjoy!

Funny joke, right?
This week Ash & Mark discuss the concepts of critical thinking and connecting the dots between big social issues.
We have to get smarter about the way we use our energy to engage with the news and fight for the issues that have meaning to us. Many are in the habit of skimming, glossing over, or performing allyship & intelligence through reposts on social media...but is that really critical thought? When sh*t hits the fan, who do we become?

This week, Ashley and Mark discuss the insidiousness of our own insatiable comparative behaviors as human beings and also how social media feeds the doom loop of despair through its intentional design.

With data everywhere to seemingly support both sides of the “sleep training” dilemma but no real gold-standard research to transition opinion into fact, the real question is not whether a cry-it-out philosophy is empirically right or wrong but rather whether it is right or wrong for your family. In this episode, Ashley and Mark unpack this and discuss the origins of sleep training (hint: it had nothing to do with science) as well share their personal perspective on what has worked for them.

In a world where the investment in DEI is greater than it ever has been, with US businesses spending over 8B per year, we still struggle with solving the real problem… Inclusion. In this episode, Ashley and Mark discuss their thoughts about creating environments that transcend the numbers and instead, look to create spaces where people are feel safe, seen, and heard.

In honor of American Library Week, Ashley and Mark take on the subject of book bans in the US. While book banning and/or censoring is certainly not new, the recent trend attempting to either whitewash history or prevent access to topics around racial justice, gender identity or sexual orientation is at an all time high. Citing the “protection of our youth” as the core catalyst behind such bans is really nothing other than an attempt to protect the narrative and, by extension, maintain control….
