  • Loving People Who Hurt You — Is That Even Possible? (Matthew 5:43-48)

    Click to Comment!

Last week we talked about not getting even. This week Jesus takes it even further — love your enemies, pray for the people who've hurt you. We're digging into what that actually means, how it's different from just "not retaliating," and what it looks like to genuinely love someone who's wronged you, from small everyday hurts to the really heavy stuff. Part of our Living the Kingdom Way series, going verse by verse through the Sermon on the Mount.

  • Why Getting Even Never Actually Feels Good (Matthew 5:38-42)

"An eye for an eye" — we've all heard it, and most of us have used it wrong. This week we're digging into what Jesus actually says about revenge, why "don't retaliate" is only half the plan, and what it really looks like to kill 'em with kindness when someone's wronged you. Part of our Living the Kingdom Way series, talking verse by verse through the Sermon on the Mount.

  • S3E28: Keeping Your Word When It's Hard (Matthew 5:31-37)

    Click to Comment!

"On my way!" — and you were still standing in the bathroom deciding on a shirt. We've all done it. Somewhere along the way, "I promise" stopped meaning much of anything, and we started needing bigger words just to be believed.

This week we're in Matthew 5:31-37, where Jesus deals with two things that sound unrelated at first — divorce and oath-swearing — and shows us the same problem underneath both: people following the rules on paper while missing the point completely. Then He says something so simple it's almost funny: just say yes or no, and mean it.

No shame, no lecture — just an honest, porch-swing conversation about what it actually costs to be somebody whose word means something again.

    Click to Comment!

Nobody ever committed adultery just by scrolling their phone at midnight. Right?

This week we're talking about one of the most convicting verses in the Sermon on the Mount — Matthew 5:27-30 — where Jesus takes a commandment nobody in the room thought applied to them and quietly moves it a whole lot closer to home. It's not about your hands. It's about what you let your mind replay when nobody's watching.

No shame spiral, no finger-pointing — just an honest, porch-swing conversation about guarding your heart, and a few real guardrails you can actually put up this week.

  • What Does the Bible Say About Anger? (More Than You Think)

    Click to Comment!

You can go your whole life never once raising a hand against another person — and Jesus says you might still be standing closer to trouble than you think. In this episode, we're digging into Matthew 5:21-26, where Jesus moves past "don't murder" and gets straight to the heart of it: contempt, anger we keep on simmer, and the surprisingly practical thing He tells us to do about it. This one gets honest, a little uncomfortable, and ends with something you can actually act on this week. Grab the free companion printable at SimplyBlessedDesignz.com.

  • S3E25: When Obedience Goes Deeper Than Behavior — Jesus Raises the Standard

    Click to Comment!

Jesus didn't come to lower the bar — He moved it. In this episode, we're digging into Matthew 5:17-20, where Jesus tells a crowd full of people (including the most rule-following religious experts of the day) that following the rules was never the whole point. We'll talk about who the Pharisees really were, why Jesus says your righteousness has to exceed theirs, and what "far greater righteousness" actually means for your everyday life — heart over behavior, not more rules.

This episode is part of our Living the Kingdom Way series, walking verse by verse through the Sermon on the Mount.

  • What Does It Mean to Be Persecuted Today | S3E24 Unscripted Conversations

    Click to Comment!

Have you ever been in a room where you knew something was wrong but stayed quiet because you were scared of what people would think? That feeling right there — that is exactly what we are talking about today.

We are hitting the 8th Beatitude in Matthew 5:10 and then flowing right into salt and light in Matthew 5:13-16. Because here is what I need you to understand — persecution is not just the big dramatic stuff. It is the friend who stops texting you. The family dinner that gets weird. The group chat you suddenly get left out of. All because you chose to do the right thing.

And when you are brave enough to speak up anyway? That is when you become the salt and the light this world is so desperately hungry for.

This one is going to hit you right in the chest. Come hang out with us.

  • Strength That Looks Like Mercy: Why Gentleness Isn't Weakness | S3E23

    Click to Comment!

Y'all. Look around at the world right now. The division. The anger. The way people talk to and about each other. And then look at what Jesus said in Matthew 5 — blessed are the merciful. Blessed are the pure in heart. Blessed are the peacemakers.

Those three things go against absolutely everything the world is telling us to do right now. And I cannot think of three things we need more desperately.

In Episode 23 of Unscripted Conversations we talk about what mercy actually is — and what it is not. Why purity of heart has nothing to do with being perfect and everything to do with what is actually driving you on the inside. And the difference between a peacekeeper and a peacemaker — because y'all those are NOT the same thing at all.

My husband Sam is a Sheriff Deputy and this one got really personal. Come hang out. 🎙️

  • Blessed Doesn't Look Like You Think It Does: Rethinking Success, Strength, and God's Favor | S3E22

    Click to Comment!

Okay so let me ask you something. When is the last time life knocked you completely flat and you actually felt blessed in the middle of it?

    Yeah. That's what I thought.

We all know the Beatitudes. We grew up hearing them. Most of us could recite them without even thinking about it. But knowing the words and actually living them out on a regular Tuesday when everything is happening all around you — those are two completely different things.

In Episode 22 we are slowing way down and going through the first four beatitudes one at a time. Poor in spirit. Mourning. Meekness. And hungering and thirsting for righteousness. And we are asking the question most of us have never actually asked out loud — okay but what does this look like in MY real life?

This one got personal for me. Like really personal. And I think it is going to get personal for you too.

    Come hang out.

  • The Upside-Down Kingdom: What Jesus Really Meant by Blessed — Unscripted Conversations S3E21

    Click to Comment!

We've all seen it — the new house, the promotion, the vacation photo with "blessed" in the caption. And honestly? We've all posted it too. But what happens when you open Matthew 5 and the first thing Jesus says is blessed are those who mourn? Blessed are the ones at the end of their rope? Blessed are the persecuted?

That is not the social media version of blessed. And yet that is exactly what Jesus said.

In this episode we're kicking off the Sermon on the Mount series — Living the Kingdom Way — and we're starting right at the beginning. Matthew 5:1–12. The Beatitudes. And we're getting really honest about how much of the world's definition of blessed has snuck into our faith without us even realizing it.

    We're talking about:

    • Why Jesus' definition of blessed looks nothing like what our culture celebrates

    • What makarios (mah-KAH-ree-oss) actually means — and why it changes everything

    • The world's version of the Beatitudes vs. Jesus' version, side by side

    • Why the things you've been embarrassed about might actually be your greatest qualification

    • What it looks like to stop performing and actually come to God as you are

This one is going to mess with you in the best possible way.
