As someone deeply seeded in the world of art, I had the chance to explore the fascinating world of intrigue that permeates Claudia Chan Shaw's life. A zestful personality, Claudia’s multidimensional career spans radio, television, fashion, and a profound interest in collectibles. 

Having a keen interest in the arts, Claudia revealed her foremost love – storytelling. She paints quite the picture when she sets off narrating, making her listeners acutely in tune with her memories. Claudia’s unique storytelling prowess relies on her ability to imbue each tale with nostalgia. But more than that, it's her ability to reclaim and retell these memories beautifully that keep the listener hooked. 

Our conversation veered into her passion for collecting. Claudia gave insights into the unique aspect of being a collector. According to her, the world is divided into two types of people: collectors and non-collectors. As someone who appreciates the art of collecting, it was intriguing to get a peak into her perspective on the intricate world of collectors.

Claudia described herself as an initial obsessive collector, led by a strong sense of nostalgia for childhood toys and vintage fashion. Today, space and sustainability factors have compelled her to be judicious about what she collects. Her focus is mainly on items that evoke a sentimental feeling, a shared memory, or a particular moment in time. 

Her first foray into collecting was her love for Humphrey Bogart. Her longing to reclaim memories guided her choice of collectibles. Claudia’s personal collection grew as she pursued objects that held an evocative, emotional meaning. The thrilling pursuit of these artifacts acts as a key to open doors to the past, keeping fading memories alive in tangible, tactile forms.

The charm of Claudia's story, however, lies not in merely collecting but in elevating her passion into action. She recounted joining Collectors, a TV show aimed at other enthusiasts, as a panellist, which led to writing a book on collecting and lately co-presenting Antiques Down Under. Claudia's ability to create such a vibrant ecosystem has been a significant source of inspiration.

Her charismatic persona has intrigued audiences far and wide, who can tap into her wealth of knowledge on various digital platforms and at lectures. Claudia revels in the storytelling aspect of each piece she presents, providing an in-depth look into its individual journey.

My conversation with Claudia underscored how our passions can weave the narrative of our life, always keeping us afloat and directing our journey. Her conviction in following her heart never to be deterred by life’s hurdles serves as an inspiration. Some people are born entrepreneurs. They are the ones who dare to listen to their hearts, follow their passions and leave their unique mark on the world no matter what. My guest today is one of these courageous beings. Aidan Walsh, founder and designer of AIDAN has an entrepreneurial story brimming with vision, resilience, and a whole lot of grit. Growing up on his parents’ pearl farm in Broome, Western Australia, Aidan’s desire for adventure laid the foundation for his entrepreneurial spirit. He went against the tide of societal norms to explore multiple career paths, including backpacking after graduating from a prestigious private school, hanging out with the rich and famous as a yacht broker in Monaco, and owning a nightclub and restaurants on Rodeo Drive, Los Angeles. 

Channeling this spirit of freedom, Aidan’s unorthodox path paved the way for him to find his true calling, AIDAN the Brand. We talk about the creation of AIDAN, a lifestyle luggage and accessories brand that seamlessly combines the design elements of New York with an Australian sense of adventure. He explains how the brand aims to provide not just luggage but a lifestyle, emphasising the importance of intersecting fashion, design, and culture. We talk a little deeper on solving problems through design, protecting intellectual property and the rigorous testing process behind AIDAN products. 

There is power in seizing unexpected opportunities if you are willing to take them. Aidan tells the story of his serendipitous encounter which led to a pivotal moment in his entrepreneurial journey. And this journey is far from over, promising more exciting developments in the years ahead.

It might look like Aidan’s life is one extended holiday but this couldn’t be further from the truth. Aidan reflects that despite his social and charismatic demeanour, he keeps a lot of his ventures outside of AIDAN private, constantly working in the background on projects no one sees. Aidan’s entrepreneurial journey is a testament to the power of determination, creativity, and the pursuit of a life by design.

Toward the end of our conversation, Aidan shares his personal philosophy and the significance of kindness, giving back, and building meaningful relationships. Wealth and possessions come and go, but being a good person and positively impacting others are the keys to a fulfilling life.

A phrase that comes to mind when I think of my guest today is ‘freedom from rigidity’. Andrew Morello is affectionately known to many as the winner of the first Australian Apprentice in 2009, a reality show that judges the business skills of a competitive group of contestants. Wherever he focuses his energy, be it mentoring entrepreneurs or spending time with family and friends, Andrew’s unbridled energy is a force to be reckoned with.

What I love about Andrew the most is that despite all his success, he remains grounded in his most magnetic and authentic self. He lives life large but never forgets where he came from and what it took to get here. 

Growing up in Moonee Ponds in Northwest Melbourne, Andrew talks about being raised in an entrepreneurial environment, working from a young age in his father’s businesses. He reflects on this time with fondness and how his father's unwavering moral compass instilled in him the importance of family and integrity. He shares how he got his start in business at age 15 and his relentless pursuit of his passion.

I have such a deep love for my very special guest today, Tom Cronin, otherwise known as the King of Calm. Tom is the author of six books, all written with the common theme of magnifying human potential through the practice of meditation. As the founder of The Stillness Project, Tom created a global movement to inspire one billion people to sit in stillness daily, believing this is the key to reducing stress and chaos in people's lives. 

Dedicated to making the world a better place, Tom also produced The Portal, an award winning documentary created as part of a bold, global vision to overcome the chronic levels of anxiety, depression, PTSD and trauma that we are facing today. He is a teacher, speaker, corporate trainer, and an internationally renowned conscious leadership expert and it gives me great joy to share this inspiring conversation with you today. 

Tom reflects on his early days in the wild world of finance in the late 80s. Living the high life fuelled by alcohol and drugs, Tom’s mental state quickly spiralled into panic attacks, insomnia and a deep, dark depression which culminated in a full-blown nervous breakdown in his late twenties. Then he discovered the power of meditation. Tom shares how this completely turned his life around, removing his stress response so that he could be fully engaged and present. 

In our modern lives, the importance of ancient practices such as meditation is often overlooked. Tom shares how meditation can be a powerful tool to heal, bring inner transformation and foster conscious awareness into our lives. We talk about the two stages in our spiritual journey - the Yogi phase where we cultivate consciousness and Rishi, where we are inspired to help others experience what we have discovered. This is conscious leadership. 

We also explore the concept of transitioning from the age of Kali Yuga to Satya Yuga, representing a shift in paradigms that underscores Tom’s entire ethos. I have immense love, deep respect, and profound admiration for our very special guest today - David Chiem. We had such an incredible conversation, so incredible that we’ve had to make it into a two-part series. This is part one.

David is the founder, CEO, and Executive Chairman of MindChamps and one of the most successful entrepreneurs in Singapore. MindChamps holds first place in premium preschools in Singapore and is the first preschool to be listed on the Singapore Stock Exchange.

MindChamps was founded almost two decades ago on the belief that if we understand how we learn, we can find the best ways of targeting and releasing the potential in every child. The company began as a calling to make a difference by creating an approach to education that is in tune with the demands of a rapidly changing world. David has also written a plethora of books, including Only the Heart, nominated for three Australian literary awards and is used as a set text in Australian schools.

David’s story is one that speaks of immense determination and gratitude. David arrived in Australia as a refugee from Vietnam when he was 14. His father instilled in him a deep gratitude for the luck they had in making it out alive, a sentiment that had a profound effect on him. 

Then, in 1984 at the age of 14, David became the first Asian Australian to star in an international drama series Butterfly Island. David shares how he landed the role, despite having never acted, attending the auditions in secret by himself and not being able to swim (one of the key criteria for the role!). He shares the mindset he adopted that allowed him to overcome the fears that would have held others back.

The universe rewards the unreasonably determined and David is one of those people. He finds a way to do things, despite everything. He has always had a knack for staying ahead of the game.

David reminds us to seize every opportunity. To not be too proud. And how to release yourself from the shackles of the mind, that would otherwise keep you imprisoned in fear.

He has a profound wisdom that he carries with him and believes that there is only ever one way to say anything - with 100% respect and from the heart.

In the face of adversity, I will always choose optimism over positive thinking. Every time. Why? An optimistic brain is far more capable of shifting us forward than a brain that is stuck in fear, blame and excuses.

In this episode, over a warming cup of Tiger Purrr Chai, I explain why positive thinking doesn’t help you as much as you might think. Put simply, it is a bandaid solution and in business settings it can be counterproductive. Trying to maintain only positive visions of the future while pursuing your goals will hinder your progress in achieving them.

We have moments of inner peace, and we have moments of inner turmoil. Inner peace leads to stagnation, while inner turmoil invites us to innovate, create and recalibrate. Inner turmoil inspires us to buckle down and make the strong persistent effort that is necessary to find the solution and realise a feasible goal.

Emotions aren’t bad and melancholy is an essential part of a full life. The question is this - how long will you hold onto that emotion? If you hold on for long enough, it becomes your identity. The spiritual entrepreneur possesses emotional mastery and understands that without the darkness the light would not exist.

Optimism is about grit, calm courage and resilience, sprinkled with a large dose of never-give-up-ology. The optimist always sees the big picture and holds strong belief and faith in a better future.

The optimist knows it is their thoughts and feelings that create their destiny. What you focus on the most will always manifest in your life. It is the law.

Elevated emotions combined with high-level thinking will raise our vibration to meet new levels of infinite possibility.
