In today's podcast the first article from the Law Society Gazette reports that Conveyancing groups are asking the Chancellor for more flexibility from the furlough system to be able to interchange key staff.  

The second article also comes from the Law Society Gazette and examines the possible loss of Duty Solicitors to people facing repossession proceedings in court when the courts resume hearings.  

The third article is brought to you by The Daily Mail and looks at how there is a difference in predictions of house price declines between the Bank of England and estate agent Knight Frank.  The Bank of England is predicting a whopping 16% fall whereas Knight Frank is only predicting 7%.  

The fourth article comes from Evening Standard Homes and Property and covers the Nationwide building society's plan to continue efforts to support their mortgage customers by extending their payment holiday by another 3 months as well as freezing repossessions for 12 months.  

The fifth article comes from Property Wire and looks at the new ways criminals are able to launder money instead of investing through the property market.  These include cryptocurrency, social media, online gaming and the gig economy.  

The sixth article also comes from Property Wire and examines a call by the managing director of a property management group to temporarily suspend the 3% stamp duty surcharge for buy-to-let.  The hope is that this will revitalise the flagging property market.  

Legal future brings us the seventh article which looks at a report published by Search Acumen which shows the effect of the Coronavirus on the housing market.  After a very strong January the market is now at a seven year low.   

Finally on a lighter note Country Life magazine showcases a £2 million five bedroom house Georgian with a coach house and 10 acres of land in Taunton in Devon.  With stunning views and colonnaded balconies.

The third article is also brought to you by The Law Society Gazette and looks at a Solicitor who has been struck off for allowing payments in excess of £8 million worth of cheques to be run through her company bank account.  

The fourth article comes from Legal futures and revisits the case of a Junior Lawyer and her struggle to appeal her striking off for leaving documents in a colleague's briefcase on a train.  

The fifth article comes from the BBC following an announcement by the housing minister that the housing market can resume.  Estate agents are allowed to show properties again and Removal firms and Conveyancing firms are allowed to operate given they follow safety guidelines.  

The sixth article comes from Legal Cheek and looks at a letter sent by the Junior Lawyers Division of the Law Society to the Solicitors Regulation authority regarding the treatment of Ms Matthews following her losing a briefcase on a train.  It shows concern for the toxic environment some Junior Lawyers are subjected to. 

The Negotiator brings us the seventh article which also looks at the Housing market restart following the Government announcement and examines how there are 450,000 properties waiting in limbo during the suspension of the market which can now potentially resume.   

Next, in our eighth article The Negotiator tackles the state of e-Conveyancing and predicts that it may still be some time until Conveyancing goes fully digital.  

The ninth article in this episode harks from the Daily Mail and questions what course of action is available for people who were already in the middle of a property transaction before the virus outbreak.  And whether they should consider low balling.  

The tenth and final article comes from Evening Standard Homes and Property and concerns a study by Savills estate agents into whether the virus outbreak has changed patterns of home purchasing to favour the countryside over the city.

The SRA itself brings us the next article where they set out their priorities for the next 3 years as decided by surveys they have conducted in and around the Legal profession.  Looking at the 3 key areas of standards, technology and emerging opportunities.

The following article is not specifically targeted at the Legal profession but instead examines what support is available for businesses which are having to cease trading during the lockdown.  It comes from the BBC.

The Daily Mail reports that estate agents are unhappy with the package offered to them by online giant Rightmove in light of the restrictions caused by the viral outbreak.  Rightmove have offered a 75% discount for 4 months, whereas some agents would prefer 3 months completely unpaid.

A chilling prediction from the Daily Mail next where experts predict a drop of up to 20% in the housing market caused by, you guessed it, Coronavirus.  The already sluggish market may face further challenges.

A warning now from the same publication which advises people not to cancel their mortgage payments until they have agreed this with their mortgage company.  The mortgage companies are assessing claims on a case by case basis so it is not automatically guaranteed and may affect your credit rating.

Our first article from the Guardian looks at a branch of Haart estate agents whose manager laid off his entire team in anticipation of the lockdown despite advice to the contrary from the government.

In another first we look at a publication previously unknown to us, the Legal Cheek.  It examines the same issue as a previous Law Society article in this issue namely allowing Junior Lawyers to take their exams during the outbreak.  But we thought we would mention the publication in case you were not aware of it.

Legal futures brings us the story of the new appointee as chair of the Legal Ombudsman.  She gets a hefty £52,500 for only 60 days work a year which is equivalent of £300,000 full time.  She also has six other roles.  How does she fit it all in?

Finally on a lighter note we look at a reasonably priced beautiful thatched cottage in Salisbury from Country Life magazine.  It is surrounded by a beautifully well maintained garden with its own pond and benches.

The next article is our first article featured from EGI Radius Data Exchange which looks into how Auctioneers are using technology to sell their properties remotely to avoid groups gathering during the virus lockdown.

Property wire looks at how some mortgage brokers may choose to leave the property market entirely due to diminishing gains.  This will leave a lot of people searching to remortgage finding it difficult to secure loans with different products.  Other investment opportunities may become more attractive due to Coronavirus outbreak.

Legal futures looks at the plight of unregulated Solicitors working in firms that are not regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority.  After the rules change they can now practice again, contrary to the wishes of the Law Society.

Legal futures brings us another story of the governments new Anti money laundering levy aimed at building a task force to counter money launderers.

Then we look at the Evening Standard Homes and Property magazine for a new development of rental only properties aimed at the banking sector.  Beautiful properties with great local amenities.

Finally on a lighter note we look at a reasonably priced beautiful four / five bedroom home in Lincoln from Country Life magazine.  It is surrounded by a beautiful garden with mature hedgerows and fantastic views across open fields.

Coronavirus also raises its ugly head in the next article brought to you by the Daily Mail.  The article shows how the housing market is taking a hit since its recent highs after the election victory by the Conservative government. It examines historical house price changes linked to average income and warns of the dangers of the Coronavirus.

The next article, also by the Daily Mail, examines mortgage prisoners who have been locked into mortgages with unregulated mortgage providers since the 2008 banking crisis.  The government are forming a working group to try to address the problem and allow these prisoners to move their mortgage to newer, lower cost packages.  They are urging banks not to repossess houses where the occupants are in this predicament.

First Time buyer magazine tells us about a new housing estate being built in Milton Keynes.  The prices seem high to be aimed at young families or first time buyers but Milton Keynes would be a good spot to lay down roots.  The housing estate has good local amenities.

Legal future brings us story of a new mega merger between two top law firms in the South East creating a new Law Firm with a turnover of £40 million putting it in the top 100 firms in the UK.

Finally on a lighter note we look at a beautiful seven bedroom home in the South Downs from Country Life magazine.  It comes with its own Bishop's palace in the back garden.
