COOKERZILLA: Animation, Astrology & Video Games

A milestone upload : i Metroid prime 2 echoes my way between the 12th house dark “professional artist“ and light “professional AREN’T-ist“ realm discussing the 5th house duality I’ve experienced via Aries Chiron 2018 - 2026

Now This podcast has been both a HEALING and an UNRAVELING ; ultimately I am interested in how these topics can contribute to the watcher / listener lives : your always welcome to write into the show [email protected]

Long form stream of consciousness , low thrills #boring spiritual , video game thought expression is my favorite type of content and I reckognize it’s not everyone’s cup of tea.

... #ANIMATION | I do a bit of a creative / collective check-in on #animation from my Zillenial 1994 baby perspective who experienced 2006-2013 shift AWAY from mainstream mixed - media (Live Action 3D, 2D Hand-Drawn + CGI animation) as I try to “spiritually” un-pack what contributed to that shift Disney’s late “Deep Canvas” technology.

#007 | #animation The comprehensive low poly successor to the only 3D software I ever clicked with releases the sequel of PicoCAD 2 | #astrology Mercury in Pisces that began this podcast is now DIRECT after a titanic retrograde and station conjunct  8° degree Mars, North Node and South Node in the opposing sign of Virgo | #videogames A conversation about the “consumer transparency” of Steam Charts + my psychoanalysis of an (in Josh’s opinion) increasingly ANXIOUS Player Base.

#005 | As Pisces season winds down: so does Jupiter’s watery connection to the sun- Aries Venus cardinally initiates a somewhat clinical Check-In on @cookerzilla: I compare this podcast to some newly discovered unsavory internet channels to talk out how I try to maintain integrity, dignity, respect in a format that unfortunately usually facilitates the opposite... Finally I ACTUALLY sat down and played a video game!? Double Fine’s KEEPER (2025) to be exact where we discuss my initial early impressions.

#004: NS Arts Budget Cuts + End of Smiling Friends, Virgo Lunar Eclipse & Video Game Renaissance #podcast

NOTE: My goal is to present this info in a respectful, productive and personal way as my artist path continues to be a trial by fire experience that I felt called to channel in this discussion about very complex topics.

CORRECTION: Grants To Individuals program REDUCED from $632K to $442k
https://artsns.ca/news/changes-arts-ns-budget

an educational personal perspective minded diary / discussion about being an individual Animation Artist & The importance of Artist Funding, Artist Grants for the Arts Sector of Nova Scotia  + the sudden END of Smiling Friends cartoon and how that shows production process contrasts with an artist grant project.

The Lunar South Node Eclipse in Virgo eradicates my “perfectionist” ego as this podcast further pummels all delusion of such a thing exists. To wrap everything in this talk into frenzied bow- I discuss a, perhaps utopian, future and present conditions for my vision of a “Video Game Renaissance”.

#animation

00:00:00 Intro; Nova Scotia arts cuts focus

DISCLAIMER: The Service of Writing Artist Grants (for others) has 100% of my respect: I didn't finish my thought about some people needing to budget 10% of a granted award for that service which is evidence of how much work is required to access / navigate this type of  funding.

00:15:01 Grants-to-individuals slashed 690k→130k

00:48:57 Individuals vs organizations; resilience realities

DISCLAIMER: applying as a Organization is very different requirement than Individual Artist. Only support from me towards the folks on the ground doing important work as an organization. I was expressing frustrations around my own limitations to be helpful in that sphere.

01:08:13 Smiling Friends impact, tone, style

01:39:04 Artistic Production rules: on‑model, 3/4 staging, communication

#astrology

01:48:01 Virgo lunar eclipse overview

01:50:26 Embrace imperfection; keep publishing

01:58:48 Leo–Virgo–Libra evolutionary sequence

02:11:02 Aries action versus Pisces drift

02:22:37 Mercury‑in‑Pisces “The Thing” analogy

#videogames

02:31:16 Video game renaissance defined

02:33:20 Steam model; 30% platform cut

02:36:33 Emulation and decomp breakthroughs

02:44:18 AAA fatigue; live‑service clones critiqued

02:57:18 Single‑A mindset; Deeper visions on unique Video Games

#001 | My first Saturn Return in Pisces has ended as I break down the astrology about my animated short “Depression’s Demonic Duration”, childhood 4th-house stuff, plus the full history of Macromedia Flash turning into Adobe Animate. Then I check the current state of indie games with Mewgenics, Romeo is a Deadman (Suda51), and Highguard.
