If you got a quote for a new air conditioner in 2026 and it came in 20 to 30 percent higher than you expected, I want to walk you through where that money is actually going. R-410A is phased out. New systems run R-454B or R-32, and the refrigerant change, the redesigned equipment, the leak sensors, and the new tooling on my side all hit the same year. Most of that increase is not contractor markup, it is the system actually being different now. I break down a real quote line by line, what the running cost looks like, why the federal tax credits are gone, and which Oklahoma utility rebates are still active. Correction, September 15, 2026: the OG&E rebate figures I gave in this episode are wrong. OG&E's own site says its Oklahoma residential rebate programs are closed for 2026 and return in 2027, and it lists no geothermal rebate at all. Rebates change by utility and by program date, so call 405-375-4822 and I will check what your own utility actually offers right now.
