Hebrews 12: 1-4 Neil Woodbury

The writer of the Hebrews letter gives us another way to be thankful for the work of Christ, the Author of Our Salvation.

I. No excuse for faithlessness

a. Read Hebr. 12: 1

b. The cloud of witnesses

II. Consider Jesus the Christ, the Son of God

a. Read Hebr. 12: 2-3

b. He is worthy of praise and glory!

III. We have not paid the penalty for sin

a. Read Hebr. 12: 4

b. Can we be worthy of this calling?

Remembering the Christ at Pentecost

The old hymn says, “All about Jesus would I know…” – Well, friends and brethren, Pentecost A.D. 31 was all about Jesus and salvation through His Blood.

I. First Gospel Message, from the Apostles

a. Read Acts 2: 1-4, 14-42

b. The message and terms of pardon are the same this hour!

II. This is the message the Apostles Preached!

a. Read 1 Cor. 2: 1-11

b. Evangelists must continue this message, not one of their own.

III. This message in the “Last Days” was prophesied;

Faith as God Requires It

“Faith is Trust and trust is a must, to the Child of God”, G.E.H.

Three elements of Faith;

1. A fully convinced acknowledgement of God’s revelation through His Word

2. A self-surrendering fellowship with the Truth (adhesion)

3. A fully assured and answering Trust in the God of Heaven and salvation through His Son Jesus Christ

This faith as the Christian has goes far beyond the Greek concept of just a trusting nature.

I. The Nature of Faith

ii. The evidence of things not “seen”

II. The Necessity of Faith

a. Read Hebr. 11:

i. God’s people were approved through faith in the past

ii. God Requires faith of those seeking Him.

The Full Knowledge of the Truth

The last few verses of Hebrews 10 bring us the harsh contrast between becoming “Apostate” towards the Blood of Christ and the blessings of living in Faith, holding the love of the Gospel of Christ to the end of our days to be rewarded in the presence of our Savior.

I. Willful sinning of those once in Christ

b. Willfully defined in Greek

c. No longer any sacrifice available

d. Apostasy not Backsliding

II. The Glories of living in the “Enlightenment”

This tenth chapter of the Hebrew Letter is a wonderful treatise on the superior nature of Jesus Christ and the New Covenant that He purchased with His Blood.

Bringing to the sons of Israel and the Gentile believers the true coming of good things in His Name!

I. Sacrifices under the Law bring only temporary peace with God

a. Read Hebr. 10: 1-4

II. Jesus Christ – the true sacrifice for sin – is in His Blood

a. Read Hebr. 10: -11

b. Read Ps. 40: 6-8

c. “He has said” the First must be taken away in order to establish the Second.

d. Once for all in Christ Jesus – the only remedy for forgiveness of sins.

III. Jesus in the right hand of the Father

a. Read Hebr. 10: 12-20

The Covenants Defined to the Saints

To know of and to understand God’s covenant with mankind is to fully appreciate being “In Christ”, in the Kingdom of God. Now from Hebrews;

I. The Blood of the Covenants – “a dedication of”

a. Read Hebr. 9: 16-23

b. Principle from God; without blood shedding, there is no remission (of sin). Read Rom. 6: 23, 2 Cor. 5: 7 Turn to Is. 55: 8-9; Because God has spoken thus…

c. Better sacrifices? This of course is the Blood of God’s sinless Son – to make payment “in full” for the sins both in the past and future Praise God!

II. Christ made the payment for sin in the Presence of God

a. Read Hebr. 9: 24-26

b. Full end of the “ages”

c. Read Heb. 9: 27-28

Living In The Resurrection John 11: 25-26 Neil Woodbury

The covenant people of Israel lived in the “Hope of the Resurrection” in faith.

The covenant people of the Kingdom of God live in the “Reality” of the Resurrection – in the same faith. And this is because of the works of Jesus of Nazareth, and His words concerning the Resurrection.

I. God’s order in the Resurrection

c. We live in a “Post-Resurrection” Age!
