The following is an excerpt from, “The Workplace You Need Now: Shaping Spaces for the Future of Work” (Wiley, 2021).
For some time, the workplace has been morphing into an ecosystem of workspaces – the home office, a coffee shop, an airport lounge, a client site, virtual reality collaboration platforms – rather than a single fixed office.
Organizations have now evolved to fully embrace the ecosystem concept, and many companies have a mandate to create new and diverse, innovative workplace ecosystems comprising digital and physical workspaces designed to meet the evolving expectations of today’s talent. In real time, organizations have learned more about which roles can be performed productively in a remote setting and which roles tend to suffer from the lack of proximity, collaboration, and culture.
