This week, Adam and Davis dive deeper into Part 7 of our series about David called After God’s Own Heart going over 1 Samuel 28 & 31

Some of the points we talk about:

-Scholars are divided on if the Medium of En-dor was an actual medium or just fake and conned people.

-Saul tried all the approved ways to try to ask God for help but God did have Samuel talk to him with an unapproved way.

-Even though David was not following God, God was still protecting him when he was living amongst the Philistines.

-There are many times David is given a shortcut option, but they are not God’s plan. Each time, he chooses to stay with God’s plan.

-The Amalekites are opportunistic during this conflict. And they are only there because Saul didn’t follow God’s plan.

-Why did Saul ask his armor bearer kill him instead of doing it himself?

-Saul has put so much trust in his own self that he can’t see that God can get him out of any situation.

This week, Adam and Jim dive deeper into Part 6 of our series about David called After God’s Own Heart going over 1 Samuel 26 & 27

Some of the points we talk about:

- David would wipe out complete settlements and then claim he was raiding villages of Judah.

-Chapter 26 parallels Chapter 24 with David having the chance to kill Saul but David refuses to listen to the people around him and chooses to follow God’s plan.

-David takes advantage of Achish and gets Achish to trust him and even later stand up for him.

-We need to be confident that we are on God’s path for us but not dense enough to believe we are following God’s plan.

-David continues to not only spare Saul’s life but then point out how close he is to killing Saul in front of his men.

Some of the points we talk about:

- Calebites are from Bethlehem. Meaning there is a good chance that Nabel knew exactly who David was and his family. The comment of “Who is the son of Jesse?” makes it more of an insult.

-If the wilderness time drags on, don’t focus on getting out of the wilderness but what God is trying to teach you in that time.

-If you ask God the reason for your trial, you might not get an answer. But if you ask God the reason for your trial, you will always get an answer.

-There are many solutions to our problems. However, there are very few correct solutions.

-It seems that when we are beat down by life the most, we can see God move the most. When we no longer can stand on our own accord, God’s strength in our life becomes more evident.

-Abagail first tells David to focus his anger on her and then is able to explain why David shouldn’t follow through with his anger.

-Sometimes God puts people in our lives to talk to us when we aren’t listening to him. Abagail was this for both Nabal and David. However, their

- When David is talking to Ahimelech, he mentions the king has given him a secret mission. He intentionally leaves out Saul’s name because God is the king that gave him the mission.

-Ahimelech only speaks of one of the requirements of being holy when giving the bread to David.

-David running to Gath shows that we don’t always think clearly when under stress and makes it important that we get prepared on how to handle trials before we are in the trial.

-David had the opportunity to take his promise into his own hands but allowed God’s timeline to hold true where Saul insists on keeping his life as his own.

-God will use other people to help confirm his plans for your life.

-What were the possible consequences for David if he chose to kill Saul in the cave or just let the group pass?

This week, Adam and Davis dive deeper into Part 3 of our series about David called After God’s Own Heart

Some of the points we talk about:

-While David rose in fame, Jonathan chose to support him, Saul chose to compete with him

-Saul is really bad at throwing spears.

-David is warned by his wife, Michal, about Saul coming to kill him. The person Saul placed as a snare to David ended up freeing him by using the idols Saul thought would bring David down.

-Saul’s messengers continue to prophesy every time they get near Samuel. Then when Saul goes himself, he starts prophesying before he even gets there. He takes off his royal garments to show he isn’t the king in God’s presence.

-“Is Saul also among the prophets” is a reference to 1 Samuel 10. When Saul is becoming king, they say the same thinking he is a king and a prophet. But now, it is said in a negative light.

-Saul act like many people would act when confronted with the things they put first in their life are being taken away from them.

-In every step, Saul was trying to kill David but was unsuccessful.
